If you buy a Pro you won’t be able to talk shit about the Pro while at the same time doing all the mods to make your plebe truck look like a Pro, like 99% of tacomaworld. Just get an off-road and join the club. Also, start begging for that scoop hood trade right now.

There once was a reason to go Pro - Tech&Premium without sunroof.
2019 screwed that up. Now they are both WITH sunroof.
Unless you are going to stick with stock, go OR.

Good point. Honestly if the pro came in a long bed I would have bought one for this reason alone

If it were me I'd get an OR and upgrade. Pointless to pay more to get the pro and change out all the suspension etc anyways. imo

No longbed option, color choice, mandatory scoop and sunroof keeps me from ever considering a Pro.

I've got the OR premium tech (but, I LOVE having my sunroof). At time of purchase I only got this truck over the pro due to the color.

I've upgraded a lot and this made the most sense to me for my needs. The truck is absolutely personalized to me and I am much happier with it than I think I would have been with the pro.

I don't think you can go wrong either way. I am sure you'll be happy once you tailor the rig to your own "mission profile."

Update on my POV: I double checked and the 2019 PRO comes with a sunroof. I hate them. I wouldn't get it just for that reason. Just one more thing to leak in the rain on your head. Get a 2018 if there are any left and I doubt it.

So then get the OR loaded and upgrade. But the upgrade list is long and if you have the work done, the price could be more. Quick list: FOX Shocks, 1 inch lift on springs, skid plate, seats, tires, wheels, grill, Rigid Lights, and I am sure there are more.

The seats are the same minus the pro stitching, tires (seriously? Do some homework there), wheels are subjective and usually swapped anyways, grill can be had for 90 bucks or under 200 for OEM, So yea no reason to buy a pro. If you want to just say hey I have a Pro then do it, otherwise it honestly makes no sense to not buy a tech and premium off-road.

I'm in the same boat. After reading a lot of these posts the general consensus I'm getting from people here is to buy cheap and upgrade. That said, I decided to get the Pro. Simply because they're the rarest of the breed, power moonroof (need it), they have leather and the extras and yea... don't have to worry about upgrading later on. That said, I won't see mine for another month or 2 because of it.

Headlights are expensive though lol. Yeah if going to upgrade either / or, get the off road and tweak to your liking. Only reason I'd go PRO is if i was keeping stock equipment, since it would be warrantied.

Not sure about that. What I find interesting is that a regular tacoma has a higher residual by a few percent than Pros in 3-5 years. Although not sure what they will be worth in 10 years, so maybe pro will be worth more in a few decades if it hasn't been driven to the ground.

2019 Offroad w/ premium and tech packages have moonroof.

Meh, still like the looks of the Pro over any of the others. Personal preference here.

I think it really depends on how much you're going to want to spend time modding the truck. If you think you'll take the time and spend the money to make the truck exactly what you want, get the OR. If you're like me and always end up not making time to do truck mods (or finding money), get the PRO and don't worry so much about modding all the time. I have a PRO and am very happy, and can mod slowly while still being happy with my ride.

Side note: with so many people getting into off road trucks these days, I could see the PRO value being affected i.e. consensus in the market being that PRO owners beat on their trucks while dessert racing them...

To 95% of the population they look like any other 3rd gen Tacoma.

Even to those of us in the know, it sort of looks like a Sport, sort of looks like an Offroad.

Unless it has the fender slug.....

I find it interesting that many people feel strongly against the sunroof. I love it. The argument I hear is that it will leak eventually. Any other reasons? Just curious. I've had many cars with sunroofs and never had a leak.

If you love the Pro "as-is" and don't plan to mod, get it. -- I still recommend getting the Off-Road and making it yours.

Glass is getting thinner these days to reduce weight. To me it seems a bit more fragile to have a sunroof in an offroad vehicle that might be subjected to shock or impact.

Id say get the Pro if you like the factory mods. For me, The interior upgrade, headlights, tail lights, skidplates, exterior mods, Suspension upgrades and resale made it absolutely worth it. Especially since I dont ever see them on the road. But to each his own. Pro's also came loaded with all the upgrades so when I did find one, it had all the options i was looking for. Good luck!

Get a PRO. Had 16 sport modded, now a 19 Pro. The 19 Pro just feels better to drive.

I could live without it. Its not practical for me. But it wasn't a deal breaker. I just don't use it.
