    Hey fellow tacoma owners! just bought my first toyota truck. It's a 2005 TRD Sport with 4x4 four wheel drive, and a manual 6 speed transmission. I'm a big fan of the 80s baja / trophy truck style. looking to get this truck back on the road and make it a daily driver.
    Got it for cheap :cheers:, & has a new frame - which is clutch living in the Northeast (Upstate NY, capital region). but it doesn't really run...
    bought at auction, it has a bad motor w/ some serious rod knock. bearings must be shot, and crank is probably damaged.
    getting it towed back to my place today and will get into it. My neighbor is going to be helping me either rebuild or replace the engine.

    looking for a new engine for this beast. I'm hearing that the only 2nd Gen motors that are compatible are from 2005 - 2011.
    anyone know why the 2012 - 2015 motors won't work in an '05?? :confused:
