They have definitely been embraced in Maui. I have seen some tasty tacos this week.

My Tacoma is the same quality as a McDonald’s cheeseburger? And that’s why a lot of them are selling? This thread is confusing.

Its the only mid size worth buying that's why they are selling. What is their competition, the ridgeline? the frontier? everyone knows Nissans are more dog shit than Chryslers and no one actually wants a ridgeline. the canyon and Colorado was pretty much an April fools joke that made it to market and the ranger definitely wont be as praised as people think its going to be.

The popularity is good and bad. I dislike that there are so many trucks like mine but this drives the aftermarket which is a plus. Also, as the truck ages there should be no lack of used replacement parts (try finding 1st gens in a junkyard).

Only reason it's difficult to find first gens in regular junkyards is because they have held their value and are sought after. So, people either fix and keep them, or they end up at boutique yards like Yoda Jims.

I really like my truck....when the last little issues get ironed out I will love it. If I had noticed the issues on mine before I bought it I would've just gotten another similar truck off the lot.

The sales are extremely evident in my neighborhood. It went from 1-2 2nd gens, to a SEA of 3rd gens over the last year or so.

The last 2 (and probably 3) years is growing a little. After reading the article I had this impression that Tacoma was absolutely exploding but found it interesting how consistent it's been all along. It rises and falls in sync with the overall market. It's not really a comment either way to be honest. Some years it has lots of competition, some years it had almost no competition other than Nissan in the segment and it doesn't seem to matter. Frame rot isn't a secret, doesn't seem to matter much. If I was to try to make a conclusion, though, I think it's Toyota's to lose more than anything else and perhaps that there really isn't a singularly strong competitor. What happens when they finally axe the stick shift, for example? That's one thing that comes up a lot, that's a very loyal 5% of their sales.

Higher sales numbers = more future parts trucks in 15-20 years.

I'll be buying up as many wrecked, neglected, and run down 3rd gens as I can when the 15-20 year mark hits.
