That would be great if it wasn’t for the cost vs what you get.

Others have already called this out but this goal is way out of touch with what you laid out in the first post. No offense and trust me I relate with where you're at. Would be sick if a 3" lift and 35s didn't come with a price to pay.

With the OP in mind I'd say 1" or less lift from nice adjustable coilovers on some decent 265 tires. Maybe minimal armor if you need it. It's not much but it's more than stock. Is kind of a Pro clone in some respects. If you want more than that you will likely have to do some things you alluded to not wanting to do in the OP.

Can't have a truly filthy Tacoma without hacking it up, unfortunately.

Noooop. I’ll upgrade the shocks when they take a shit, but leaving at stock height in rear.

I’m starting to see the shortcomings. This is what I like about forums; tossing around ideas and learning from others mistakes. It seems I may need to be a little flexible to avoid making a mall crawler vs a capable machine.

I’m out on the Yamaha adv bikes after the recent T7 debacle. The GSA is appealing. I almost bought a Tiger a few times but kept running across all the issues others were having. I’d like to see an Africa Twin refined and weigh around 460lbs. I do miss my DR650.

The Tacoma will cure my ADV fix, the bike is for “letting the air back in the room.”

So are you lifting your truck, or doing any mods to it?

I thought mine was one of the cleanest builds here. No idea who bought my truck.

I’ve always thought my mods were easy and not crazy. I have drilled some holes and cut some grommets and siliconed some stuff.

    • Softopper
    • Ammo can storage boxes in bed rails
    • Two, 5 gallon gas cans bolted to bed rails
    • Cb Radio (drilled holes in dash to mount radio mic hanger. Drilled hole in side of center console to mount bracket, cut and siliconed grommets)
    • Ham radio antenna. (Cut and siliconed grommets)
    • Total chaos bed stiffeners (drilled holes in sheet metal, but this mod beefs up the truck)
    • Rago fabrication no trim ditch light mounts.
    • AVS In channel window deflectors
    • 265/75/16 wrangler duratracs
    • Black oak led ditch lights
    • Husky floor liners.
    • Locker down console safe
I don’t know I just try not to have to destroy something to make it better. But I can see the need depending on the mod. I don’t ever plan on selling the truck, but that means I don’t want to trash it. I’d like for it to last 400,000mi so I don’t want to mess with suspension, engine or drivetrain too much. Most of what I’ve done has been easily undo-able. If I do ever go with snorkel I’ll buy a second fender.

Absolutely yes to both. Just trying to build it with minimal permanent alterations. I’m avoiding welding anything, for instance, if at all possible.

It's less Tacoma and more mod
You don't have to justify every drilled hole dude. You do you. It's just metal and plastic, all of it can be repaired or replaced should you ever want to. Sounds like you've done it up nice! I sorta get where OP is coming from, with a brand new truck I wouldn't be so hesitant, maybe I'm weird that way. But when they're new parts are easy to come by and the trucks even modified can be launched like a used hooker for a good value cause it has Toyota on the badge if you really wanted to.

I have a 93 Land Cruiser that is like new. I'm selling my Tacoma and building it because its more comfortable. But with its age it's harder to get body parts now. So I'm a bit more hesitant to cut. But I'll get over the trepedation like I always do. Shits gotta work or it's no good to me anyway.

    I've got one for you:
Your Tacoma, in its stock form, is the most reliable and durable it will ever be.
When you mod something, however clean, to improve a function, you will be degrading something else on the truck. Most of the time it's the efficiency that takes the hit. Next is bearings and drivetrain. You make something better and you make something else worse every single time.

I'm with you OP. It is a slow build for sure, but getting there.
There is a few things on my to do list: re-gear, rock sliders, upgrade the suspension and rear locker.

Is it possible to put 285s or wider 33s on the truck without permanently altering it?

What about doing 5100’s and just leveling out the front.
