Good Morning All, i am have recently purchased a Tapui "3 person" roof top tent, and also a cheaper alternative bed rack/ladder rack. I needed to so go high because of the full annex i ordered also. I am 6'2" and i needed it high enough so i could walk under and not hit my head.. many travel trailer stories.. I am trying to decide on the best mounting orientation as i see some pros and cons to both. The main reason im asking is if i have it rear facing, then i will need to cut the aluminium channel, and i am not sure if i am ready to do to as once its cut.. well..

Attached is a photo of the tent in place, minus the Annex and a stock photo of the annex.
If i am better suited in another thread, please feel free to move me. thank you

We have the Autuena XL Ruggerized 4 person tent it is a heavy sucker 240 lbs. We purchased an over canopy rack that is adjusted to give us 74" off the ground to the top of the bars plus the rails under the tent floor add another 1" or so. I am 5'11" my son is 6'1" and growing like a weed. We have a few inches to spare even with it leaning when opened and wearing hiking/hunting boots. I like being close to the drivers side/control center of the vehicle.
It is too wide to mount it to the back 72"ish but it would get the way constantly for our application. Having an extra leaf put in this week to make it an heavy duty Dakar leaf pack so that will raise it up another 3/4" and not bottom out offroad. Nice setup

thank you for the feedback, i was actually looking for your setup, but was having a hard time keeping it within budget. I live on the island, and the dealers here are the older generation that dont work with these types of setups. I got "why not just get a camper trailer, now thats a better idea, or buy a $200 tent and put it on the ground.. some peoples parents hey? haha.
