Been reading about the benefits of the ECT... but stumbled upon that it hurts fuel economy during extended use...

Anyone got any insider info on is??

The only thing that effects fuel economy is your foot on the throttle or increase in curb weight

I have left mine on when towing the camper on the highway, it actually helps a little with economy if you're hauling heavy stuff. If it's just you and the dog weighing the truck down however, yes it's going to hurt your economy some, because it's programmed to shift differently during acceleration.

I'm speculating that it also changes up the wizardry that goes into the engine timing cycle, which is why Toyota printed that horribly confusing acronym on the button and not "Tow mode" like everyone else does .

In my Monday to Friday commute, I don't touch it. Tinkering with the settings makes me heavy on the throttle (because I want to see what changes it does) which winds up wasting more gas than the button ever could.

I use it almost all the time. Doesn't affect timing as far as I know, just the pedal input for more throttle response so it feels "snappier". I like it because this engine misfire like a MF when you at high load and low RPM's which is a lot of the time. Less Misfire = a longer last engine. Also, no it will not affect MPG... or at least it doesn't for me. Just increases RPM slightly/it holds gears longer meaning you need less foot down to get it to go or hold a certain speed (which I believe decreases injector pulse width and negates any increase in fuel consumption from the slightly higher RPM). Sometimes when its not on it almost feels like the motor is lugging and uses more gas because its so inefficient down lower in the RPM range (thinking pumping loss here)

This truck likes to rev. Yes its noisy and busy when it does but its fine, just let it

so i have posted in the past, drive down a straight road with ECT on at about 40MPH. keeping steady at 40MPH turn ECT off, it will feel like the truck is breaking. FYI i have the ECT on at start up mod. I never drive without it on!

You certainly won't cause damage from having it on all the time.

All it does is increases the throttle sensitivity and holds gears longer before shifting to let you get further into the powerband. Not much different than if you drive with ECT off and like to accelerate hard all the time.

I was told the same thing yesterday by the dealer mechanic evaluating my transmission. Kept it on while driving home and got 23.5 MPG on my '17 Limited.

I like ECT on for highways driving, I never tow or haul anything heavy so I can’t comment on that end. I do find that with ECT on in the city the throttle response becomes too sensitive and the truck feels a bit jerky.

Get the tranny shiftpoint TSB done and you won't need ECT unless you're towing.

Not sure if this is the one from back in September or not, that went with Stumble fix. Let me know if there is another!

I run the ECT always on Mod with the new TSB-0062-18 tune. I dont worry about MPG with big tires and winter gas.
