my inspection only mentioned my sweet Zinsco panel and the added panel they did on the side of the garage. Thankfully the ol fire starter is out and replaced with a much better panel.

I got my 1970s original house in June and been non stop remodeling and finally beginning to be able to enjoy the work. Its been a long almost 6 months but i wouldnt change anything. Enjoy the process.

What did it run you to do? Did you contract or DIY?

i did it myself. But with the help of my in laws who've done it a few times themselves already. Wasnt bad, cost was maybe $600 after all the breakers. I bought it when i first bought the house and just now got around to doing it so my number may be wrong but i know it wasnt expensive.

Yeah pretty much. Most places that sell roofing/siding also sell windows and doors. If you were looking for an Therma-Tru door with blinds between the glass, you could also go to their website and look for dealers nearby. Be aware that some dealers are not contractor supplies, they are fancy showrooms.. which are great for going to dial in what you want, but the prices are usually multiple times higher than a contractor supply. I own a few old rental properties, and the cost savings on DIY items like windows/doors/siding/roofing and even patio blocks/landscaping stuff is incredible when you start buying through a 'contractor' supply vs homedepot. Plumbing and electrical supplies also offer big savings on things like brass valves, pipe fittings, and fixtures.

Cool. I was thinking about doing it myself with my dad who is an Electrical Eng. Gonna have an Electrician check it first to see if it's really necessary and get a quote. Both electricians I talked to on the phone had never heard of Challenger panels being bad, but I did a simple google search and found a lot of info. Will go Square D QO 30 Space.

Having great difficulty finding anywhere that carries them cheaper than the big box stores. Not many Contractor supply stores here that even carry doors.

Look at lumber yards. Many contractor supply stores around here are lumber yards.

Anyone have good results with a laminate top and under mount sink? Can I do it, easily, DIY? Redoing my laundry room sink and want undermount sink, cheap, and capable of handling chemicals that would go in a laundry room sink (also to be used essentially as a garage sink)

you might have a problem with the edge inside the sink area with an under mount and laminate DIY. But Lowes or Home Depot might have a pre fabbed counter top that would fit an undermount sink

Laminate tops with undermount sinks are a mistake

Are getting new build permits that hard in the area your clients keep trying to build in? Just seems like now the last two houses went from "remodels" tohaving major issues and rather than teardowns they...basically just start over anyways

Last house was considered a new building from the permit stage due to extent of work and covered under our Province's home warranty system , this house is considered a renovation but is legal non conforming in siting on the lot so if you tore it down you couldn't build new in same location

I was always going to dig up the back wall of this house to improve the waterproofing but the no footings discovery was a surprise
