Hello. I am a newbie to TW and i would like your advice. I just built my dream truck but its missing something. 2 more cylinders would be just perfect. :)

I have a 98 Tacoma 4x4 sitting on a front Dana 60 kingpin axle, Rear 14 bolt, both trussed, and locked with ARB's, king coilovers, all four corners, 3 link front and rear, dual cases, 40 inch beadlocks.

I have a stock 3.4 v6 and auto trans. Yuck.

I am thinking about a ford coyote engine and manual tansmission OR a Toyota V8 and manual tansmission.

Any thoughts? I know its a broad topic, but the one thing I am not wanting to do is do a body lift. Can this be done without a body lift?

THANK YOU ALL FOR YOUR TIME AND OPINION!

The coyote is huge, I'm not sure it would even fit in the engine bay. LS would be the easiest. But I like the toyota idea

You should call this guy.....He does Lexus V-8 swaps. Great to get information from as well.

I'm an LS guy, the Ford motors are to damn wide for most swaps.

GORAN - Not sure how to reply to a specific person yet, but I am not interested in a Chevy. I am a ford guy through and through and my Grandpa would turn over in his grave and reach out from the depth and smack me if he saw I purchased a Chevy. LOL

RJBiii - Can you elaborate on why the 3ur? benefits?

I talked with someone recently that told me you can bolt up the 5 speed (i think maybe the r155f or the r150f) with an adapter plate. May be a sweet combo! Not aware of any toyota v8s with manual transmission sold in the US..

I posted too soon. Reread and noticed you wanted a manual. I was just gonna say swap in the tundra 5.7 just for the power and low end torque and itd be easier if you could find a rolled donor truck and use the motor, trans, wiring and ecu out of it.

I'm a ford guy also, but coyote is a big boy. I can take some measurements if you want, I have a yote in my mustang. You will need a body lift unless you push the front axle forward especially if you are running tons. I swapped an old 5.0 from a fox body into my 85 toyota. Biggest issue was fan clearance. Once you get a decent radiator the wasnt even space for a electric fan unless you set it up as a pusher

@pairodice That was exactly the case with my previous truck. I had a 92 Toyota truck 2x4 with a ford 302, all bolt in. Had an electric fan for clearance. With this build, the axle is pushed forward and down and should have more room than a standard IFS setup. So far everyone seems to like the Toyota option.
