Is the manual transmission that much better than the auto transmission?

Obviously, but don't forget elbows, chin and teeth are viable operators or temporary holding tools, too. Just about training in evasive moves. Throw in changing the 8 track or keying your radio mic for added challenge.

 

I'd rather have an auto over a manual !!!

Manual valve body installed so you've full control of the transmission


I've driven quite a few vehicles with full manual valve body autos and prefer them over manual transmissions

I test drove all ATs because you can’t find MTs around here. I didn’t think the AT was terrible, but I didn’t have any extended test drives either.
My last few trucks were ATs, but almost all of my other vehicles were MT. I really missed rowing gears, so I found my Taco 650 miles away. Really glad I found what I wanted instead of settling for something local that I might’ve regretted.
Only you can decide what you want. I really like rowing gears, so the MT is well worth it to me.

Anyway, I enjoy driving both manual and automatic. I enjoy the former more so I got a manual Tacoma. Do I regret it? Sometimes, until I get in it and drive it again and realise I made the best choice for me.

Actually there's a conversion kit available for these transmissions to replace the High/low switch with a shifter

I'm definitely not able to do any of this... Any who, high-low and throwing in a range splitter - watching it with a single stick and switches makes sense to me what's going on. But doing it manually with 3 sticks, floating the gears and hitting all 18 in sequence seems like it would take a pretty awesome driver.

 

As a retiree I sought out a 6 speed manual Gen 2 and love it. If I were still working and had to commute in AM and PM Metro Denver traffic I would have went automatic.

 

The manual transmission costs less ($2000?) than the automatic on a new truck. Service on the manual transmission is much less expensive.
I doubt you'll loose any money when you sell it, lots of demand for manual transmissions from those of us who've never owned an automatic and hope to keep it that way.

 

6spd was one of the main reason I went with the Taco. The joy of ripping through the gears (on & off road), downshifting with blips and hearing the aftermarket exhaust burble, and having more control of the truck all out way the inconvenience of dealing with the clutch in traffic IMO. Besides, this truck needs the manual to make up for the underpowered V6. I would only consider the AT if the V6 had turbos and more power.
