    Those two are a good choice.
    I'd go for the Tello, won't break the bank and if he gets good at it and likes it you could upgrade him to Spark.

    Are you able to use the Tello with a iPad? I noticed it said android on it but seeing that all the other DJI stuff runs on iPad thought it was kinda weird for it to not.

    Don't own a Tello, own a Mavic Pro,
    Someone I know has the Spark and tello. You can purchase aftermarket controllers for it, my buddy has aftermarket and seems to work fine.
    Don't know if it works with Ipad.
