    In other news. I convinced my neighbor to buy a full length prinsu for his 5th gen 4runner. When it was delivered, both side rails were bent pretty bad. In order for him to get replacements they said that he had to destroy them and send pictures of them destroyed. What a shame!

    He did send them pics, I wouldn't say its destroyed. But I'm sure the aluminum would be comprised if bent back and powder coat may crack...

    I know it's fashionable to pooh-pooh electric, but considering the strides the technology has made in the last few years, and after driving one for a few months now, I strongly believe in it's merits. I think there's strong potential for it in off roading. Low end torque and slow speed control without need of a gearbox, plus being able to have independent motor control of each wheel without drive shafts or axels, it could even be better than portal hubs for wheel clearance.

    That would be my biggest worry, even if the electric truck could handle the terrain, how much juice will it have if its having to use all that torque to get you out deep into the woods. and then what happens if you need a recharge? carry a generator and spare fuel if your solar setup can't keep up?

    It's not like it has to work any harder than gas motor doing the same terrain, but yeah the charging is the one concern, it's nice that it could charge with solar, but you would need huge capacity to charge it in a reasonable time. Still, for range I get as good as my taco, and that electric truck advertises as even more than 300miles

    it would take forever to charge with a small gen set. you would need one hell of a Generator or 2 small hondas to get a quick charge. at that point might as well have a gas motor.

    Electric is the future. It will only get better and better. I would rock that to Rivian all the way if charging stations were as convenient as gas stations. And they will be one day.

    Tomorrow=Spare batteries.

    Oh yeah for sure. I was getting at the higher power usage under higher torque would greatly reduce your electric range before finding a good way to recharge in the woods.

    I definitely wouldn’t mind an electric car as my daily ... mainly for the free carpool and charging at work.

    you realize it takes more energy to charge a battery then it puts out right. it would take a lot of solar panels to charge your truck in 4 hrs let alone a few minutes that we normally spend at the pump. It blows me away how people have no clue how much energy it takes to do the things they want. are power company's are already struggling to provide the power we need, yet we keep making these assumptions that its the future. New commercial buildings are required to put in raceways for EV chargers but the power grid is decades behind being able to support it.
    By the time CA gets done with PG&E they will go bankrupt, the grid will need upgraded at the tax payers expense. Not to mention Pot farmers are sucking the grid dry and yet they are not required to even have solar under current codes.
    How can a public gas station support high voltage charging with are current power grid?
    How big would this station need to be to keep traffic moving?
    We are a long ways from this and there is better solutions.:burp:
