    Hey guys,

New member here, been lurking for a while...

I'm in a 2017 4Runner TRD Pro white and love it, but have a chance to swap for a 2018 Tacoma Trd Pro Cavalry Blue.

My main reasoning is...I'd move into a Tundra, but it's a bit dated inside and there there is a 2020/2021 redesign planned. So want to get into something else that I can have fun with for the time being until then.

The Taco is a very beautiful truck.

What are your guys thoughts on a switch from 4R to Taco...from those that have done it? Pros and Cons?

I think the answer is simple: If you require a bed immediately, then make the move. However if there is nothing that necessities the requirement for the bed in the short term, then keep the 4Runner.

If you need a bed, don’t hesitate to switch. More modern interior, honestly drives very similar. Test drive and you’ll know right away if it’s for you.

I don't really need the bed tbh...95% of the time it's just me in the car solo.

My only hesitation with the Taco is the seating position is a bit off. I did a 45 min test drive and it was fine, but not sure how it would fit / feel long term say on a 2+ hour drive...

If the TRD Pro is a manual, DO IT!

    Otherwise stick with 4R

It's a MT, but I could get the manual as well. Need to test it out. Not sure how I feel about shifting geras in city traffic. That part sucks. The main draw for me of the Taco is the auto cruise control and other little creature comforts that they left out in the 4R.

Financially speaking, I wouldn’t make the trade. Only because you are going to trade it again in a year or so.

Functionally, it sounds like it wouldn’t really be an advantage to go to a truck, either.

Emotionally, if you really want a Tacoma, well, this is the trump card. Life is short. Get it. Auto or manual are just fine. I’ve had both. If you like manuals, it is really fun. Autos perform ok as well. ECT button helps if you need get up and go feel. It also gets about 10% better mpg as well.

It’s a Toyota so you can’t lose. But if I were you, knowing you’ll make the jump to a Tundra anyway, I’d just drive what you’ve got.

I am a fan of both the 4R and Tacoma. also like the Tundra but agree it needs some love. it has been the same way too long. if your main goal is a Tundra in a year or even two, keep the 4R.

I haven't even had my Tacoma a year and I honestly sometimes wish I would have gotten the 4R myself. I don't haul anything, except maybe some trash here and there and odds and ends from Lowes or Home Depot but never anything that wouldn't fit in the 4R. but, I had wanted a Tacoma since 2010, and after three F150's and one Subaru CrossTrek I bought my Tacoma this year. I don't regret it one bit.
