Buy a Pro or Trd off road and upgrade along the way?

When I purchased my 2016 TRD OR 4X4, the PRO was not available yet in Gen 3. That was actually good news for me, as I really don't care for leather seats, not to mention the extra $$$ for the PRO. Been very pleased with my OR. However, I would like to have the PRO suspension under it, Fox Shocks & TRD Springs. Searching the internet I have yet to find the kit for sale. Does anyone here know where that setup can be located? I'm sure it could be ordered from the dealerships parts dept, for a nice price.

I bought an DCLB O/R with Tech and Premium. $40k. It’s a lot of coin but $15k less than the Pro’s. I love the look of the white pro but not $15k love it and no long bed. The upgrades I have done thus far I would have done to a Pro (except skid plate). Someday the wheels and tires will likely be a big hit. Now if they had factory supercharged the Pro I would likely be in.

 

I went with the TRD Pro because here is truck that I don't have to "Mod" the crap out of it to get it to where I want it to be, I have in the Past done Mods on several Toyota's and spent countless amount of $$ or Credit card swipes and hours to get there and don't get me wrong I loved the hell out of doing the mods it all just boils down to choose your poison on how you want to spend the money.

However This time around I just do not have the time to spare for that much Modifications it is like this I still have not found the time to install my RCI sliders that have been sitting since the Group buy here back a couple month now So basically I just wanted a truck done now most of the way and ready to go get dirty Now.

And OK so I paid a bit more up front for the Pro yep! I did but it would cost me just as much to buy something else and Mod it up to the level I want anyways remember the cost to me is Parts Plus Time to do the install So now before anyone gets their Undies in a bunch at me about this .... Yes I know there are those who Enjoy doing the work and I do too if time permits but I would rather be Fishing, Hunting and going overlanding to get there Now than latter.

I was in the same boat, and I really wanted to get a Pro but then I realized that the only REAL difference between PRO and OR Tech/Prem is the suspension, everything else is minor cosmetics. If I really need to have Fox suspension, for $11k difference (between OR price paid and PRO MSRP) I can turn my OR into a super pro, IMO. I know I know, just sain'

 

Would be nice to find a OR with Prem/Tech for ($43k-$11k) $32,000

 

Lets get real, there are no 19 PROs for $43k. Every PRO I see is MSRP-ed at $47k+, but yeah it would be nice to find either one at that price

 

My build was $43.7k after the "transit/delivery fee" but i think everyone gets hit with that

 

So you've built and ordered your 19 Pro? Impressive. I haven't found a single dealer that was able to special order one for me. Which dealer if you don't mind me asking?

 

Any dealer really, its just a nice wait to get it to come in, most all i talked to wanted $500 deposit

 

Definitely not any dealer. Every dealer I talked to (I've contacted a bunch) had allocations, none could special order a PRO. It would definitely be beneficial for future Pro shopper to know which dealers are actually able to special order one. Please do share.

 

I was looking at building a '19 OR but I wanted all the options and I was pushing 41k.. got a brand new '18 Pro out of state and got it for 41.5 in November. I also realized the fully loaded OR would include a sunroof and I wouldn't fit well, so I am really glad I went for the '18 Pro.

 

Yes exactly that, when you order you put a place marker in "allocations" which then when Toyota sends out there weekly/monthly/quarterly allocations the dealer can see the whole list of incoming and if one is alike of what your preference is they can "call it" and have it delivered to their lot

 

No offence but I am starting to believe that you haven't even shopped for a PRO. Anyone who did know that PRO allocations are "earned" and Toyota allocates limited units to certain dealers only. Not every dealer gets to sell a PRO and they certainly would not allow other dealer to divert allocation that were not meant for them. Oh, and did I mention that the most basic 2019 Pro starts at $45,365.00 + $1,095 destination fee making it a $46,460.00, that is if you can get one without any option which usually is not the case. You still haven't posted which dealer sold you your 19 PRO for 43,700?

 

None taken, i have nothing to prove to "Internets" and been on this forum for many years, so i know some people just have their stance on a topic
I ordered at toyotaofrenton.com but toyotaofpuyallup.com offered the same @ MSRP one was just closer than the other to me (ask for Chan at Renton or Josh at Puyallup)

You posting $45k makes me believe you are looking at the automatic transmission, because that is a close number, but the MT is $43k and change after delivery

 

I got my MT Pro for 42.5k this week.

 

My MT Pro was $41k otd (2017). Comparable OR was $36. It made perfect sense to me to use the Fox suspension until it's tired, then upgrade shocks, UCAs, tires and rims at that point. But then I'm 90% daily driver / 10% weekend warrior / Bro-hemoth.

$5k difference was definately worth it to me.

I don't know where guys are getting this $15k difference. Are the prices really diverging that much, or am I smelling something I'd rather not step in?

(Btw, I never get tired of these threads. They're almost as much fun as MT vs AT)

Here's why I spent $85,000 on my TRD Pro (it was actually only $43,669 but I'm adjusting for the myth perpetuated on here):

I liked the sum of all parts... quite simple.

When looking at comparable Sports and OR's on the lot, the difference didn't fall much more than $5-6k once premium and tech were tacked on. I'm sure some people have dug for deeper discounts, but I couldn't get them to budge out of the 37-38k range.

So then it came down to the next question "are these add-ons worth $5k?". To me, yes they were. I loved how the Pro looked and I knew that if I bought a sport or OR then I would end up at minimum buying wheels, fogs and the pro grill.

Call me crazy, but if you're going to build a Taco with the intent to mod to your heart's desire, wouldn't it make the most sense to get a 4wd SR5?
