I'm trying to figure out what the best way to install an oil pressure gauge is on the 2TR.

Also I have no idea what type of fittings would be necessary! So, anybody ever added one before??

    IMG_2026.jpg
At first I was thinking the best choice would be that big obvious post-filter outlet because then you could at least get some sort of idea of post-filter pressure drop, but then I saw that tiny little brass fitting right in front of it and I have no idea WTF it is even for! And then... both of them are absolute bastards to get at, such that I'd probably want to pull the whole passenger's side suspension to work on it comfortably!

I'm sort of reluctant to do the spin-on adapter style, but that may be the best choice sanity-wise...

Curious about this as well....look at page 5993 of the 2016 FSM, which shows removal of the oil pressure switch and connecting a gauge in it's place. Judging by the illustration it's on the front of the engine down by the crank.

You could find the switch and plumb a "T" into it. If you have enough room. Then use the extra hole from the t for your oil pressure gauge.

I'm pretty sure the pressure switch is right there, that grey wire in the foreground getting blown out by the flash.

I don't know what thread pitch is though. Some people say 1/8" BSP (but that's for 3RZ) others say 1/8" NPT, still others say "BSP but I just crank in an NPT until the thread galls, good and tight"

And if it is BSP is there such a crazy idea as a T that is:
1 male 1/8" BSP for the block
1 female 1/8" BSP for the stock switch
1 female 1/8" NPT for your average pressure sender??

I'm sure they make NPT to bsp adapters as long as it will fit. If I was going to install a oil gauge I would only use one with a electric sander and not the type you plumb and pressured oil line too

Heavens no, I am not plumbing a tiny oil line into the cabin!

I'm gonna be using one of these slick little fellas:

Remove the oil pressure switch, and tee in THIS ADAPTER. Put your original switch on top, and the sender for the gauge on the side. It's exactly how I had mine setup when I ran an oil pressure gauge. It now is my turbo oil feed, and works mint. Should take you no more than 5min to swap it.

If you don't mind a sandwich plate, you can get them pretty cheap and they'll usually have 4 1/8 NPT ports.

I know the 4 cyl filter is in a different location than the 6 but I use one for oil pressure and temp.

I have 4 sandwich plates in service, my Tacoma, BRZ, Polaris Ranger Diesel and a Kubota tractor. All have oil pressure and temp except for the Kubota, just pressure. I've used them for many years and many miles without a problem so far.

Do you have a picture of where the sender is by chance? Thanks again for the link I just pulled the trigger on one of these for my turbo feed

Alas I sold my 2TR equipped Taco in 2020 but I do have a picture that's gonna get you in the right neighborhood.

    IMG_2026.jpg

This is looking from the front of the truck towards the back, the big silver thing is the oil filter mount and you can see the black filter peeking out over the motor mount.

See the only brass nipple looking thing right by where the blurry wire harness is covering? Right about there.

Sorry I can't give you an exact picture but you'll find it. There isn't much there to mix it up with.

Thanks for the reply, that did help get me in the general area. I did some digging in the FSM and found some more info on this for future reference in case anyone else is looking

    FEW

    2 types o gauges

only ‘ mechanical ‘ gauges ( 270 degree sweep ) would plumb a line into the cockpit

there is a safe way to accomplish that to avoid a line undone

    at 30-60 psi

a regular gauge reading the sensor usually 90 degree sweep would NOT

    risk oil in cockpit

Yeah, or you can join the 21st century and get a gauge that uses an electronic sender, like OP is suggesting.
