Anyone want to chime in why I should be looking at 4 stroke boat motors?

I've had great luck using 2 stroke out boards. What am I missing sticking with 2 strokers?

After owning both I would never go back to 2 stoke. The 4 strokes are lighter then ever, much more efficient then a 2 stroke and much more reliable. I just can’t see any reason to switch back to a 2 stroke.

Good to know. I've got that comment from others as well.
    Thanks

What size are you after? I have a 4 stroke 20 horse that I used to lug around in float planes and what not for my fly in fishing trips. Bought a 15 HP 2 stroke that weighs a good 50 pounds less and now the 4 stroke sits in the garage most of the time. But I think thats the only benefit, easier to lug around.

On my big boat I have a 150 HP 2 stroke and I wish everyday it was a 4 stroke.

4 stroke is neater in not having to mix oil with the fuel. And it does run a bit cleaner, exhaust smoke wise. Often quieter too, with more torque at lower RPM.

But. I think the ultimate choice comes down to application.

I have a neighbor with a 10hp 2 stroke on his 19' sail boat. Works ok, fairly quiet. However, it's also off and on the boat every time he trailers it out. so having the fuel/oil mix actually helps prevent leaks/spills when we lay the motor in the back of his truck.
