    Hello Tacoma World!

I have been lurking on the site, biting my nails, trying to be good as I review all the mods for one simple reason....my Taco hasn't been paid off yet. But now the end is in sight, so now I can start spending the money on the fun stuff!

My truck is a 2012 Access Cab, TRD Off Road, 6 spd manual, 4x4 and just crossed over 71k miles.

Here a couple of things that I have been planning and wanted to get some quick input on the the following mod (as it is first up on the list):

    CB Radio install

I've seen a ton of mods and install options for the CB. It looks like the most popular installs are inside / behind the center console, passenger side of the shifter, replace the radio and uses in the double din area, or under the driver seat.

My thought is to use the lower driver door cupholders (which I don't use) to mount the CB unit, run the wires behind the door panel, around the speaker and use the existing grommets and pass through to power it. Next would bring up an external speaker and mount to the driver side of the dash. My plan would be to mount the talk piece hook near the tweeter grill on the door panel.

Typically when I am off roading, I keep the radio off and the windows open so I can enjoy nature. Being brand new to CB radio and only wanting to use it during off road with my buddies, I have not found anyone who has attempted this set up for the CB. Any reasons why?

    Welcome!

Sounds like it could be a pretty cool setup. I am new to CB myself (just installed a few days ago). I installed mine to the back of the center console.

Welcome to TW! A CB install in the door could work as long as you make sure it's not jostling around. It will be a little more work running wires but shouldn't be too bad. Then just decided where to mount your whip.

I have mine installed to the right of the shifter near where a passenger's knees would be.

It could work but you have to make sure it's secure. Constant opening/closing of the door will make the mount loosen over time.

Hey welcome to TW. Only think you need to do is make sure your antenna is tuned and your SWR is as close to 1:1 as possible. If you transmit with too high of SWR you run the risk of burning out your radio.

Not my truck but mine is mounted like this. I wouldn’t want anything that runs the risk of falling under the pedals but that’s my 2¢.

Also congratulations on getting the truck paid off (or close to it) that’s the best mod you could have. I worked hard and paid mine off in a year.
