It is the holiday season and I figure for Christmas Eve and Christmas day, I'd put some lights on my truck and drive around. But just last night I was trying to do that with a charger and noticed it wouldn't stay on while driving. Does anyone know if this setting can be turned off? Would it be draining too much battery to do this and be a bad idea?

While the vehicle is moving, the maximum available power output is 100 watts. If you're using incandescent lights it would be pretty easy to exceed that with even just a few lights. Try using LED lights, or reducing the number of lights you're using. Note that the 400 watt rating is only available with the engine running and while in park. This info should be in your manual around page 413 (page 413 for 2017 models anyway).

^This. I run a string of the the big LED outdoor lights around the truck bed and have no problems with them staying on going down the road.

Forget the inverter.. go with 12v LED lights.

    Example.. https://www.christmas-light-source.com/12-Volt-LED-Lights_c_253.html

You could get real crazy and cut the cig lighter off. Then splice the lights to some 4-pin trailer wiring form any auto store.. Plug into the trailer harness on the bumper. The lights will come on when you turn your vehicle lights on.
