People on the forum have said that after 2k miles the effects of the tune go away.

Well, I went up to Reno from The Bay Area this weekend. I have 2K miles on the new tune with a manual transmission.

I was able to go Sierra mountains with minimal down shifting. When I went up to Reno before the TSB, I would have to downshift so many times that my left leg hurt. It’s so satisfying to drive a normal vehicle now after dealing with pre-TSB tune for more than a year.

Many thanks to the people that complained about the engine. Big tHanks the OVtune who found these problems and more than likely pushed Toyota to make this decision.

And a big thank you to Toyota for listening to customer feedback attempting to make things right.

From what I understand, the dealer can plug their scanner in to the port under the steering wheel and tell you if you have it or not.

I will have to check out that TSB. My dealer told me 0062-18 was to fix the stumble but I insisted on them installing it and they did. Seemed to fix more than that from my experience. If that TSB you reference can make it even better? I may have to investigate having that one done as well.

As long as you drive it normally, it will stay the same. If you revert to driving it like a grandpa, then it will learn your ways and drive crappy. Mine still drives great

So i bought my truck used with 43k miles on it. What if the previous owner was a grandpa? How do I reset the truck for a new driver? Lol. This just sounds ridiculous but what do I know.

Unhook the battery for 30 minutes then hook it up again. It will reset the ECU. Keep in mind you'll hear some high revs at idle and maybe some wonky trans behavior at first. But it will smooth out rather quickly.

That's how it worked in the 2nd gens. I assume 3rd gen resets the same way. Can anyone confirm?

I usually gave it an hour unhooked just to be sure.

Disconnect negative terminal on battery for 20 minutes, then hook it up again. Should start the process over...

    ok
Ok so here’s what happened to mine. It was great for a while after the tsb then it slowly reverted back. Because of my driving habits. I was then disappointed. Then I had an idea. So what I did was I used Ect all the time and drove a little on the aggressive side for like 2 tanks then it drives great after that even without using the ect. ( bought and installed ect always on but sold it because wifey hates it. Too preppy she says) .

My truck is going to be so confused. My son just got his permit. I’ve been teaching him how to drive in the Taco. Lol.

They’re talking about auto-transmission learning, which your manual transmission doesn’t do.

From my understanding, the learning also applies to the fuel/torque/VVTI system as well. Not just the transmission

When I do this, will I lose all my radio presets and other driver settings?

Just FYI, I disconnected the battery for 1-1/2 hours and after I reconnected, I did not lose my radio presets or driver settings.

I need to get this done. I bought my '18 in Sep and the transmission is always hunting for gears, especially on grade. This is my first Toyota and I am honestly shocked at how horrible the trans is. Love the rest of the truck though and have no other complaints, been great other than that.
