    I'm attempting to upgrade the head unit in a 2017 SR5 with the 6" non-JBL head. I have a couple of motivations for this upgrade:
    - Upgrade head unit to support wireless Carplay.
    - Add a front-facing camera.

    I was deciding between the Pioneer AVH-W4400NEX, Pioneer AVIC-W8400NEX, Pioneer AVIC-W6400NEX, and the Alpine iLX-107. I passed over the Alpine because it doesn't play CDs and I selected the 4400NEX because of price and, relatively to the higher-end Pioneer units, I didn't need the independent navigation unit (will use Google Maps on iPhone). I question whether or not I should've gone with the 8400NEX for the capacitive touch screen.

    In addition to upgrading the head unit, I'd like to install a front-facing camera. I'm planning to use the Chuanganzhuo front-facing camera off Amazon.

    Do other recommendations for this setup?

    I haven't found a complete install guide, though there are numerous instances where the W4400NEX is referenced on TW.

    The open issues for me:

    Can I retain the factory mic?
    Is a bypass kit needed to use the cameras, especially the forward facing camera? This unit has two AV inputs so I'm thinking I don't need the splicer kit frequently referenced on TW.

    Appreciate any advance your suggestions.

    I'll pitch in as I just finished my w4400 install.. I purchased exact same parts as per your list:

    with an addition to:

    - APPS2Car Parking Brake Bypass Video in Motion Interface Module

    The only thing I can't answer for you is the front-facing camera as I have no plans on using one.

    I've read that there's no major noticeable difference between the AVH-W4400 and W8400.. I went with W4400 for the sale price newegg had been offering. I've spent a ton of money on stereo equipment back in my hay day and have enjoyed it.. I've calmed down quiet a bit and am just as happy with what the W4400 has to offer. I do have the factory JBL a system which is a bonus.

    I'm still trying to learn how to operate the unit as there are quiet a few moving parts. Gone are the days of 2 knobs (volume and tuning) with that little red vertical toothpick..

    Those 2 knob days are looooong gone.
    I'll date myself but saying, "hey Mom, can I hook up this FM converter to your car?" A '71(i think) Plymouth Duster.
    I got a Kenwood single din hu now that's got built in crossovers and 4v outputs... Blew the dust off of a couple of a/d/s ph15s and had them tested. 6 way active is in my future.

    None yet... that's why I'm here.
    Keep us posted- I’m between the 8400 and the 4400. The only reason I would spring for the 8400 is the capacitive screen. I’m wondering if you lose the functionality of the compass on the dash? Also how does the head unit upgrade impact factory speakers? I’m definitely interested in hearing how your front view camera works out (and where you put it)

    OP, no bypass is needed for cameras. And many people report issues with the bypasses used with newer pioneers like the 4400 and 8400.

    But the parking brake is only needed for viewing video. Which you absolutely shouldn’t be doing while driving anyway. Aside from being super dangerous, it is a massive ticket and a suspended license in most states
