My dad has a 4x4 5.7 4 door Tundra. He drove my Tacoma, and loved it.

I don't see him parting with his Tundra thou.

On this site I feel pretty sure what recommendation you’ll receive. I came from a full size truck to a Tacoma and have never looked back. It really kinda breaks down to what your needs are. At my age and as long as I have lived in my house all my bigger hauling needs are done. I didn’t “need” a full size truck anymore. The Tacoma is more fun for me and we take ours off road even pulling a micro off road camper. It fits in tighter places and tighter trails than I would want to try with a full size truck yet has plenty of interior space to be very comfortable. You also get the Toyota reliability.

I had a Tundra when I was doing more hauling and lived out in a less populated area. Now that I have to negotiate parking garages and city traffic more often I am glad I have the Tacoma. Also I do a lot more off road driving now and really like the smaller truck. If I were you I would compare all the mid size pickups to make sure you are ok with whatever decision you make. I have not been thrilled with the Tacoma trans, but still prefer the truck over anything else I have owned.

    Do you tow?
I had a Ram 2500 before the Tacoma. I didn't need it so I down-sized and am happy. I do sometimes miss driving the beast though.

I traded my 2014 f250 4 door long bed diesel for a 2014 Tacoma single cab when I heard they were not gonna make them any more. Have not regretted it one time. Other than the 4 cylinder only putting about 105 hp to the back tires that is.

Physically the Tacoma is close to the full size of 10-12 years ago, without the tow or haul capacity.

Seems every vehicle model bloats as it ages, unfortunately.

How you use the truck is what matters. Each (250 vs Tacoma) has it's own strengths. Only you can decide which ones you need.

Try a 150 sized (Toyota,Chevy, ram). Test drive over night... my family car is a 1500 ram rebel. Granted I have 3 kids and a compact pickup doesn’t work for that... the rebel is perfect. If you plan on having more kids and keeping that vehicle I wouldn’t go compact.

Yes. I regretted it every day until I couldn’t take it anymore and got back in a full size.

I went from a Cummins 3500 srw to a Tacoma, love the Tacoma but desperately missed the diesel. Plus we were getting a big 5th wheel to travel for work. So I kept the Tacoma for a run around truck and added a Cummins dually 6-speed manual

Like others have said, just depends on your wants and needs.

So you bought an F250 because....

and now you dont want/need an F250 so you are going to trade a 1? year old truck for a new tacoma?

TBH, your decision making skills are perfect for a tacoma.

I came from a Ram 2500 with the Cummins. Every one of us who had a BIG truck wanted something smaller when our needs changed. You give up a lot so you really have to know your needs and choose accordingly. If you tow you will hate the Tacoma if you are comparing it to your 3/4t. I tow a 14’ enclosed less than a half dozen times a summer and the moment I leave the driveway I wish I had the 3/4t. It isn’t the weight it is the aerodynamic drag. So while I am the sole occupant in the truck 98% of the time like the OP and love the Tacoma I hate towing with it beyond 1 hr away.

Tacoma - smaller to manage in parking lots and just a nice truck.

3/4t - Your best choice if you tow.

To me that is the choice right there. The fact you have a new 3/4t makes me question why you jumped past the 1/2t and how the Tacoma will fill the shoes of that big truck. Add in depreciation and I would be giving myself a reality check. If I just made one bad vehicle purchase I had better be damn sure I am not adding depreciation X 2 to my list of mistakes. My wife’s friends husband was dealing one underwater car loan 12 months apart for 3 cars in a row. In the end he was in a newer year of the same vehicle he started with. His payments were 160% of what I could walk in and buy the same vehicle for.

It all depends on your needs, really.

If you do a lot of hauling, that F250 is something you will really miss. There's guys on here who haul boats and 5th wheels etc, but I'm sure its much easier and less of a hassle with the F250 if you do such things. If you only have it because of off-roading, the Tacoma is more than capable and would probably be nice because it's smaller.

If you just have your truck as a daily, and the bed is just something that comes in handy for trips to hardware stores and similar activities, the Tacoma will be fine.

All I can say is thank god my baby fits in my garage. Barely, but it fits! And I certainly wouldn't trade it for a Ranger....

FWIW... the Tacoma is far from being a "small" truck.

Just snapped this pic 20 minutes ago.

doublecab long bed parked alongside an F150 doublecab short bed...
As you can see... very similar in size.
I noticed the same at work parked next to a Chevy 1500 doublecab.

You're not crazy. I've driven about everything out there and have had my Tacoma since 2015. It's actually the longest I've ever had a vehicle. I don't tow often, if you do, look elsewhere.

What I do mostly is hunting, fishing, hiking, and having a great time outdoors. That's what this truck is for and I think that's where this truck excels. I can drive into my favorite hunting and fishing spots where full size trucks struggle, and I rarely have ever worried about getting stuck. I drove this truck into the mountains with 3 feet of snow without a problem, and pulled by buddies F150 along the way.

Take one overnight and see what you think

I hate how eager my 2018 OR hunts for a gear when not in ECT. You can't just cruise, its like it races to get to 6th gear no matter the demand I'm asking of it. If I have to drive my truck with the family, I ask my wife to drive. I'm 6'1" and have issues with how low the Toyota seats are, and my knees are higher than my hips and that's not comfortable. That's nothing new though, that's been a Toyota trait forever. I've been looking at Jeep since the leg angle is so much better. Lousy for commuting though...

I drive 125 miles round trip mon-fri. I’m on the highway and drive 80mph. I’ve been avg 23.1 in the summer. Winter is here now and *24 - *30 out and the tire pressure changes and still avg 21.1-22 mpg.
Every year we go on on a summer road trip. (Wife, teenage girl, and me.) usually driving 12-14 hrs a day on the trip to Seattle and back. 5,023 miles!
Handled great plenty of room for the drive. A3F3CF2E-FBD4-45C8-A332-5D45CE525D9A.jpg I do recommend a tonneau cover to put luggage in the back. C2278DDE-CEA8-47F2-A478-400FB46D2FC6.jpg

I drive a 2013 f250 daily for work (company truck)and when I get in my Tacoma Trd sport for the drive home it just cruises along. Test drive it on the highway. Take it up to 80mph. I know some people talk about the handling on the off-road is different.
I had a 2015 Toyota Tacoma prerunner 2 wheel drive and traded it 2 yrs later in my ‘17 Trd sport with 4 wheel drive. Going from a second gen to a 3rd gen I got a ton for trade. I also have 10-12 dealers Wisconsin/illinois to choose from and went from dealer to dealer taking written offers to the next dealer to get the best deal possible.

Sorry man, maybe test drive a different one. Some of us have been lucky enough to not have any issues with gear changes and even gained power after the latest transmission updates.
