I've always prefilled the oil filter too but only on vertical mounted filters. That's how I was taught working at a shop in my younger days. On my truck I have an oil filter relocator, the filter sits perfectly vertical (opening up) so I prefill it. But on many cars the filter sits sideways or at an angle with the opening pointing down. I don't bother trying to prefill with any oil. Never had the oil light come on any car I've changed oil on without prefilling though.

For normal/small filters it's fine if you don't prefill especially if the engine was ran right before you do the oil change which is what I do also. Mainly it's the huge remote mount filters you should always prefill.

Yeah always, don't want hot oil spilling on me lol. It's usually warm but I never change it while hot.

Don't fill it completely but enough that it isn't dry when started...or so I assume. I'll try it next time but I've never done it before, truck hasn't seized or exploded on me yet

I just don't fill em at all anymore, even on the massive coffee can sized cruiser filter. I change the oil at full hot AF temp though usually

There are check valves all over to prevent this, but again the benefit of prefilling is negligible unless you have a big ol remote unit with lots of lines to fill

I see, just a thought. Not sure if that actually makes any difference re the light. I've never changed oil with the oil cold or cooled down in my life, lol. I have always changed oil right after running the engine.

I’ve changed my commuter and bike multiple times cold :) on my commuter I would go pass 6500 miles before I change my oil as well :)

What brand/kind is that? I’ve gotten used to the Bose system in my full size and would like more low end than what the door speakers can provide. I have 2 10s in the back of my extended cab now, but something smaller would be ideal.

Most synthetics you can do that nowadays...I don't go past 5k though, with boost my oil gets dark pretty quick and I'd rather play it safe. But if I had an N/A 3.4l on synthetic I'd go 7k at least without worry.

Are we debating cool and hot oil changes tonite? Is that how low we've stooped?

Put me in the cold category. Crack the plug in the morning, eat breakfast then do the rest.

It's an Alpine, PWE-S8. There lots of companies making these compact powered subwoofers now. I just choose the Alpine cause I like the way it was configured & I've always been an Alpine fan boy.

But if it's low end bass you want these compact subs won't give you that. Just gives a bit more thump over the door speakers. I much rather prefer a normal 10" sub but I don't have the room h this thing does the job. If you have two 10s now you'll be really really disappointed in one of these things.

My commuter is an 02 Corolla. I haven’t drove the Tacoma long enough yet to change the oil since the first time I took it home which I’ll probably change it at 5k since it will be mostly off road miles.

I dont have that problem. All my relatives are a minimum of 6 hours away. Get together on Thanksgiving, stay apart for Christmas.

Yea I try to do the same to my commuter :) Think the most I’ve gone is a little over 7500 miles on the Corolla.

I have the two tens only because they were left over from another truck, and already in a flat down firing box where I could stack things on top. As long as it fills in the low end, I’d be happy. I’ve found I’m getting too old for loud booming bass
