How does the stock TRD Off-Road Suspension compare to a Old Man Emu set- up??

Here is a bit of info of my planned use and possible add on weight.

    Daily Driver (short city commute)
    My weekend camper
    Mild off-road, trail use

Have purchased a Mobtown rear bumper with swing out tire carrier, Leer Cap, Decked System to hold my camping gear.

Planning to add a front bumper.
    Top Rack and Awning.

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated!

    Cheers

Budget is $2500, looking at OME TAK-16 on Toytecs site.
Want to keep daily ride quality, gain some ground clearance for mild off-road Backcountry camping.

Is it possible to keep the Stock 16" Rims with the above OME kit? Or would it look odd with the added ground clearance??

I guess what my main question is...

Is the OME kit worth the $ over the Stock or should I keep the Stock Suspension and save for a higher dollar system??

I didn’t bother looking up that kit but it looks like what I’m running. It’s not better and it’s not worse. I changed my UCA while doing the install too. The only thing I would have done different is put greasable pins in my leaf packs. The dakars LOVE to squeak!

I just did the OME 2 inch kit with HD leaf packs. You will want the HD rear leafs with the added weight you have in the back. (I also have a Leer top and Decked system)

The ride will be more stiff than stock and soak up larger bumps better.

I am a daily driver for work with some mild off road action, more highway then offload that is for sure. I have the soft riding front struts with 888 coils, standard dakar's in the rear, 3 degree shim, drop carrier bearing kit, and sport OME shocks in the rear. I noticed the ride difference as soon as I took it out on the road as I live on a fairly bumpy road. The suspension has held up very well for me, will be changing out the front coils for 886's when I finally pull the trigger on a bumper.

edit: also running 285/75/16's, cmc was required.

I have done this little mod and it does help, stop it completely no, but after a good cleaning they do stop squeaking.

I have a gallon of fluid film and when I ran into a squeak issue I poured some in a cup and brushed it all over the leafpacks with a 1" brush. Had the squeaks bad and it hasn't came back.

Yep, it does help but when it has been rainy etc for a little bit and you don't keep the springs clean they do start to sqeek again.

You really should try brushing on the fluid film then. Rain /snow /sand and still not a peep . It was driving me crazy how loud it had gotten.

Yep since 2016. Ome heavy duty all around w full armor . I did reconfigure the suspension here and there to account for added weight . At first I added the heavy duty kit right off the bat without the armor then I removed a rear leaf and bought a stock weight front spring set until my front bumper was built. Rear bumper and sliders got here first so I re-added the leafs. After the front bumper was finally here I added the winch and reinstalled the heavy duty coils.

I found mine cheaper. I kind of stumbled across this as a fix. I had boated my truck to an island for 4 days of camping with my family and after all that sand and driving through brackish water I wanted to treat the truck and armor and it's been quiet ever since . After I noticed I got in there and slathered the leafs with it lol.

I found OME to be way too stiff and preloaded because they are designed for overlanders. I had the medium kit. And even with a bumper it was jarring. It settled and I lost 3/4” of lift and it was still stiffer than my new shocks with 700# springs, but the valving is way better

I would do a Bilstein 6112/ 5160 setup instead and you will spend almost the same anount
