    Hi all,

I'm interested in buying this SAS tacoma:

    https://www.rockcrawlersforsale.com/autos/toyota/taco/2006-toyota-tacoma-sas-on-1-tons-2169.html

I don't have any experience with Solid axle conversions on toyotas, from the information in this sale thread, is there anything that I should keep an eye out for or ask the seller about? Is there anything that raises a red flag for you?

I'm going to check out the truck and look a welds and the work and make sure everything seems fit but besides that I don't know the right questions to ask so I'm looking for a little help.

Any comments appreciated, thanks for your help in advance.

I've been following his build on the gram for a while now and he has put some solid work into that truck. I'd say go for it.

Well its an awesome truck but the one thing that hasn't been replaced/upgraded on it is the motor and those year 4.0s (2005-2006) had head gasket issues that caused them to blow around 100k miles....I think there was even a recall. I'd check with Toyota to see if it was done or if it qualifies. I'm sure the motor has seen its fair share of work too given how much weight it's pushing around...not that a Toyota engine can't handle it but I'd be wary given the HG issues those years were known to have.

Would suck to drop that kind of cash on a 12 year old truck with all those awesome upgrades to have the motor go out not long after. Not trying to be a debbie downer but it's something to check out when looking at the truck.

Best thing to do would be to have a compression check done on it by either you or a mechanic before pulling the trigger. I'd definitely check the oil and coolant too just to make sure it doesn't look like a milkshake but that usually only happens when the head gasket leak is really bad and damage is most likely already done. Compression test on the cylinders is the only surefire way to know it's health in that department

It was insanely cool. It ended up selling for 22.5k to the guy who got in before me, but at the very least inspiration for a cool build.
