If I remember correctly it was just a box cutter. Nothing fancy. It's a very solid foam so the only way to really ruin it is if you accidentally cut out too much.

Here's my design to add to the thread. It's different, maybe not better, than others. This is a minimalist platform that simply fills the gap between the storage compartments and the front seats. I wanted to keep the storage compartments accessible, keep the platform light, and make it easy to remove to use the back seats if needed. I like the Dewalt tool box idea but couldn't justify more tool boxes in the truck.

Thought about covering the cubby but it seems fine as-is for now. I also put sticky velcro tape on the edges of the wood to prevent the plastic trim from scratching.
    1209181356.jpg

There's a tiny bit of room for storage under the platform.
    1209181355a.jpg

I throw a couple of dog beds on top, and some sheets on the upholstery and my dogs jump right in. They're 60 and 80 lbs, so they're a tight fit but don't seem to mind once they get settled in.

Actually they prefer staying in the canopy. I'll leave them here when we're not driving long distances and it's not too hot or cold for them:

This is what I did so far for the back... Hope to have Barney in the back soon, I used pipe wrap foam for the edges and not sure if it will hold up. Right now he is a 8 month old 75 pound Black Lab. Thinking of putting those draft dodgers put at the bottom of doors all around the sides

Worked on my shelf today. I used a Track Mat and 2, 15 quart totes from Home Depot ($5.98 ea).

I cut a notch out for the rear of the console and used those pieces to level the Track Mat. Made a slice on the underside of the mat and folded it up. The totes fit perfectly and slide out easily and the mat lifts right up to access the under seat storage. Just need to trim it a little more.

its the 34"x 13" ridgid molle panel on the greyman tactical website, the other seat molle panels you can get off ebay, they are genuine military surplus

I used the track mat and Dewalt tool boxes everyone else uses.

Made a cut the length of the mat so I can take it out without moving the seats.

I removed the useless rear console and mounting bracket too.

My wife had this tote in black. It will not fit in my truck. I do not have my seats all the way forward, they will fit if I want to do that, but I want my seats the way they are. So I will opt out of the totes. I did order the trac-mat and I will place that on top of what I have now
