nice, Im currently living on Martha's Vineyard but grew up in Easton so not too far away. Not a whole lot of trails around here but there are a few fast firelanes. Not looking to do anything crazy, just want something fun and legal which is kinda hard to do.

Im talking height, but I believe the laws for width is basically that the tires can't come out past the fender but I would be looking at the smallest LT kit, and Id be getting some pretty Wide fenders and hope for the best.

I'd go with nice mid travel then you don't have to deal with inspection issues, but there's always a way to accomplish goals...

There's fenders that'll cover almost any lt kit - wide tires make a big difference in width.

Exactly, Its funny cuz when I first started ruining my car with stupid unnecessary mods for where I live, I had a spacer lift and 33s, I always made jokes about doing coils and UCAs and 35s (no one really does anything like that around here) and then it actually ended up happening. So I've begun to throw the LT idea around a little and its only a matter of time haha

That's crazy if they're talking about lift. I wonder how they measure? If it's ground to frame tire size has a lot to do with it too.

After doing some research it looks like Massachusetts law says for 4x4 vehicles they use the equation lift height = (wheelbase × track width)/2200. So you'd have to measure, but in theory the wider your vehicle is the higher you could lift it, up to the maximum track width of 102 inches. I dont understand how they can tell how much lift you're getting off a coilover compared to stock ride height though. I didn't even know laws like that existed until just now.

Yea not really sure why any of thats a thing, so in theory with LT, I could legally go higher?

Seems like it, although I'm not sure how much of a difference the 4 - 7" of extra track width would make. And they do fiberglass fenders at 2, 4, and 6" so no matter what setup you go with you can cover the tires up.

It is definitely cheaper to do LT with 2WD correct? considering having to buy and build axles

You'd spend at least $600 on axles for your standard kit, plus cost to assemble the cv's with new parts. Really high end kits like solo's XLT can cycle 19" with a +4.5 per side I believe, but their custom 4wd axles are almost $2,000. It all depends what kit you get. Hell, if you know someone with a machine shop you could bring them your stock front axle and have them replicate it, but just 2 inches longer and you may save some $$. Either way it's more expensive. But there are ways to LT the front and leave it 2wd until you save up for the axles. Just have to plug the diff somehow.

Thanks man, ill probably go with the least wide kit I can find, and go 2wd.

I would check out all pro, it seems to be one of the cheaper kits and only adds 4" track width. ~$2200 without coilovers, and the axles are on sale, only $420 for a pair. The only way I know to plug the front end without an axle, I've been told you have to disassemble a CV joint, remove the middle shaft, and plug the outer end into the hub/ install the axle nut back in to secure the wheel bearings side. Plug the other side back into the diff. The C clip should hold it in place. But if you're doing that much work, you may as well just save up and do the 4wd axles imo. Did you measure your track width at all?

I did some more research for you and it looks like bolt on spacers are not legal there either, which makes me wonder if they go off the narrower track width when deciding how much lift is allowed. Because the rear will still be stock width, and the only other way to widen it involves an axle swap and some fabrication work. You definitely need to talk to someone local who knows the laws about that stuff before investing 3/4k in a kit that's not legal there.

Definitely stay away from all pro. Only thing you could do worse is find a used engage kit.

That's good to know, I thought they were decent kits. Does anyone else have a +2 kit?

Total chaos makes the best +2 kit. Baja kits makes one as well and their are a few solo +2 kits floating around
