Were taking a trip out there early 2019 and was wondering if anyone that's been, has some suggestions.

We've done research and we'll do a lot of the touristy stuff. Go to macau, see the big buddha, ride a junk boat, see the walled city and all that stuff. But what off the wall stuff would you recommend? Food? Hotel? Sites? Tips to get around? Tips in general? Any kind of feedback is appreciatted.

Well be there for about 5 - 6 days, late March early april. Were pretty adventurous, we travel often, so the more obscure the better. Thanks!!

Spent a few days in Hong Kong prior to a tour of mainland China in 2014. My wife and I took a 6 hr tour of Hong Kong with Laura
(https://hellohongkong.com.hk/about-us/). It was just the two of us. My suggestion is to take a group tour to orient yourself upon arrival. There are lots of tours available from various operators at various price levels. Check Trip Advisor etc. If you are there for 5-6 days, you can then decide what you want to explore further.

Here is my Trip Advisor review :

The MRT Transit system is great in Honk Kong. Easy to get around.

We stayed at the Regal Kowloon Hotel. It was fine. Most hotels have buffet breakfasts with both Western and Asian foods. The sky is the limit as to hotels and pricing. Something to suit every budget.

Awesome!! I didn't think I would get a response this quickly. Wasn't sure how active this part of the forum is.

    Our rough plan so far:

    1. Land in lantau island. Spend a day here.
    2. Go to macau. Spend a day here. (Still up in the air depending on travel)
    3. Go to hong kong island. Split our last days here.
    4. Go to hong kong. Split our last days here.

Were pretty pumped to see hong kong. I might have to take advantage of that tour guide. I appreciate it!!!!

A little of this and a little of that.
Hong Kong is an interesting place to visit. It’s pretty safe, relatively clean, but as you know from your travels, it’s always good to be aware. Pick pockets are everywhere.

As @Auroraboy suggested, I also recommend a tour, either group or private, whichever you decide. Some hotels have tour info at the concierge desks.

The transit system is easy to use. There are apps if you want.

I have been adventurous and found that walking around and down side streets and alleys are great ways to find some great food. The “chain” style restaurants are all along the main streets, but venture off a block or two and you can find great places to eat.

    Good luck and enjoy!

Awesome! Thank you! For sure about the pickpockets. We try to be as careful as possible. We've been lucky so far. I had an sdcard stolen from me in a hotel. Didn't notice until it was too late, unfortunately.

From what I've read, hong kong seems to be an English friendly place. Easy transport. Should be lots of fun. We've found some pretty cool hotels to stay at. It's our anniversary the day were gonna be in macau. So I'll be looking for a good anniversary spot there. Should be very easy to do in macau.

Is it worth getting the octopus card for transportation?

    Yes, very English friendly.
I did get the card for ease of use.
    Happy Anniversary to you both!
