I leased my Tacoma and got phenomenal payments. When the lease is up I will buy it, the residual on a Tacoma is insane. When the lease is up I will be able to buy an awesome truck at a great price that I could never get anywhere else. I sell Mercedes Benz and have an idea on how it works. Maybe something to consider....I treat the truck and upgrade it the same way I would as if I owned it. It doesn't matter either way because I will buy it. The truck was 38,000, it will be 27,000 in three years with 45,000 miles on it. On a lot that same truck would still be in the 30s all day long.

Or we just don’t like it... in my testing and driving multiple 2nd and 3rd gens, both manual and auto, I have clearly preferred the 2nd gen auto every time, that’s why I’ve had my 2nd gen since 08. 3rd gen interior wise feels smaller, acts smaller because the seats are lower to the floorboard. The 3.5 and the new 6spd manual were mated perfectly, the new 6spd auto is another story. It’s clunky at best, and every other 6 spd or higher auto I’ve tested was smooth besides this one. It had the saddest time trying to find the right gear simply because it had to make the power higher. What’s always intrigued me was the audacity of Toyota to put an engine with less tq (I know, ooohhh 1 less ft lb) in a next generation truck compared to the last. No other company has ever done that. The 3rd gen looks the part, don’t get me wrong, but it’s a simple and almost harmful refresh at best.

I agree, i couldn't stand the way the auto drove on my test drives. Luckily i was dead set on ordering a manual and don't regret it one bit. 100% worth the 4 month wait

    Mine's a 9/15 build date. I don't dislike it in the least

Edited to add,I still have mine.41k on it now,I like it but it had almost every problem associated with the first batch.Been driving a Toyota of some kind since 1986,never been so frustrated with a new vehicle.Still have my 2000 Tundra,it was literally 1 of the very first ones built and cannot bring myself to get rid of it.

Then ditch it and take the loss... what’s the hold up? Life’s short, don’t spend another day in a vehicle you “hate”, I wouldn’t! I wanted a midsize truck, and agree the Tacoma drives like shit compared to a GM variant... that said, the Tacoma features & capabilities won me over and I can deal with the lack of fit and comfort in favor of function.

Why do 2nd gen owners troll the 3rd gen forum... I don’t waste my time in any other generation area, nothing there of interest by simple deduction (i.e., I have NO interest in anything other than what I drive).

Remember when I bought my Tundra, they were still so new I could be driving down the road and the guys driving Fords and Chevy's were so antagonistic they acted like they wanted to run me off the road, lol.Gave me a certain sense of smug pride, when it's all said and done I'm Toyota till the end.

Did you test drive a different truck and decide to buy a tacoma? I'm confused what made you think a 'boring' truck would be any less boring to you 3 months later? Sell the truck, take the loss and be happy! I would recommend an extended test drive though, seems you missed that mark the first time.
