Mat has never said to warm it up first, if memory serves. But I did it this time cause everyone is doing it. lol

It was about 20 degrees here when I flashed mine this afternoon.... flashed it cold, let it idle for 3-4 minutes, drove it! All was fine.

 

So we agree, it's insane!

 

I basically followed the idle learning process in the FSM, which is to do it when it's at operating temp. YMMV

 

I’ve flashed hot, cold and everywhere in between and never had an issue. Once you get some miles on it, it sorts itself out. Back in the day we never even idled after flashing.

 

I have to agree with this,start from a cold engine so it can learn cold fuel trims and adjust as the engine reaches operating temp. YMMV

 

Lol at worst I'd get a stumble within the first 50mi following cold start flash and then my trusty honeybadger would figure out its life and return to having no problems

 

Fuel trims aren't set it and forget it. They change quickly right after flashing but settle into some base value that moves slowly over time based on environmental conditions, driving habits, and other variables. The maps are set up in such a way that the truck will run just fine (safely) with no trims established. Cold or hot starting on a new flash doesn't really matter much.

 

Exactly. I basically ignore anything that happens in the first 400 miles. Some people seem to constantly be reflashing and never logging enough miles for things to settle in.

 

Yup, and pretty sure LTFT's arn't updated until the engine is up to temp anyway.

This is why I flash from a cold start,it allows the engine to establish a base value from cold to operating temp. It then has a "base value" to go off of when adapting to other conditions /scenarios. Again YMMV and I may be off on my hypothesis.

 

Don't really know all the nitty gritty details, but that would make sense. Bottom line, the EFI electronics in modern vehicles are so good it probably doesn't matter.

 

I think the point of giving it time for idle learning is so that happens sooner. Personally I flashed 1.04 once, did the idle learning and forgot about it until the learning made it somewhat horrible to drive again. Then I disconnected the battery for 10 min and it was back. I flashed 1.05 three times because I figured I missed something when my idle was crazy after the first time, so I did it again. Same issue. Sent ticket in to support@ovtune.zendesk.com and had a fix in less than an hour.

 

It’s not going to make a difference. I can flash on a cold truck here where it’s 15 degrees or I can do it cold in Phoenix where it’s 100. Or I can do either after up to temp. The engine temp and air temp are going to vary drastically depending on where you are and the time of year you flash. It’ll be fine.

Just flash the truck. Idle 10 minutes. Drive it.

 

I've also flashed cold and warm, saw no real difference.

The idling is only to speed up the initial calibration.

10 minutes is all that’s recommended.

 

Just flashed the updated blog file tonight, the 1>2 shift has changed, but I’m not making any opinion until it breaks in (2-300 miles)

I enjoyed the more aggressive 1st in the “idle surge fix” version because I can control my take-off a lot more which is nice For DD and gets my weight moving.

So far so good, can tell that mpg bar sits higher more often.
