Loving my first Tacoma. Should have ditched the diesels years ago.

    Hey there,

I’ve been messing with all sorts of diesels for years and finally went a completely different direction and got a Tacoma. I love it and won’t be getting another diesel until I need one for work. Even then I’ll keep the Tacoma.

The truck came with a 3” toyotech lift already. I noticed some positive camber this morning while filling up. Which lead me to check the tread and noticed some un even wear.

My question is I was hoping to add another 1” of lift up front for clearance issues. Can I simply stack a 1” spacer on the current lift ? Plus add longer UCA’s. Also will I need longer shocks at that point ?

Thanks in advance for any input.

The Toytec lift is a suspension lift? Sounds like the uneven wear and camber is from having a 3 inch lift with stock UCAs. You can get some SPC upper control arms for pretty cheap and they will fix that. Yeah one inch spacers should be able to give you the lift you want but at 4 inches I’m not sure if you’re going to have to get extended shocks.

Welcome to TW... Nice looking ride!! 3 inches of lift on the front is pretty much the max for Tacoma’s unless you go with a drop bracket lift like i did. The downside with a drop bracket is you have to cut a section out of your cross member however the upside is that it keeps all of your angles true.

Don't want to exceed 3" of lift on a 4x4 or your CV axles are going to break often...the geometry is too severe and the boots will rub themselves apart. Usually 3" is as high as is recommended for an IFS 4x4. You can exceed 3" with a drop bracket lift, but that involves a new lift setup and they leave the drivetrain in the stock location so it doesn't give you much clearance.

I would keep your current lift setup as is, if you want more clearance then I would look into bigger tires, which might involve some cutting/trimming depending on how big you go

    Nice looking truck!
