I just purchased a 2019 Tacoma TRD Sport last October. With only 730 kilometers on it (about 450 miles on it), I experienced something weird. On a cool dry morning on my way to work, I approached my first stop sign from a 30 mph speed. Please note: no cruise control, no ECT, the transmission was simply in D. I came to almost a full stop. With my foot still on the brake (and only the brake pedal), the vehicle suddenly revved to a high RPM and advanced the vehicle about 15 to 20 ft before the RPM returned to its idle value. Luckily no damage was done-due to being so early in the morning. I'm not sure if the cause was due to the accelerator system or the transmission. We immediately returned the vehicle to the dealer and filled out a detailed report of the event. They kept the vehicle for a few days. They tested the throttle assembly, accelerator pedal for sticking, and the brake system. They returned the vehicle back to me insisting that all is OK and that the vehicle is safe. So nothing was done to the vehicle and this situation can likely happen again.
Toyota Canada told me over the phone "fingers crossed that it doesn't recur."
The truck is not being driven, as I'm not sure if this will happen again. Anyone out there have a similar experience? BTW floor mat was secured to the floor. Thanks

If the dealer tested the assembly, documented the issue and called it good I would go ahead and drive it. Maybe without any other family members aboard until you've put some miles on it.
    Welcome to the forum.

I have to believe that Toyota would take this complaint seriously after what happened with the floormat scandal. With only 450 miles on it, you're new to the car too. My bet is that you hit the gas on accident.

As long as you have copies of the documents stating it is safe to drive, I would drive it as much as possible, of course by myself for a while. I would not put my family in it until I was sure it was safe. Just keep your foot ready to hold the brakes and maybe keep one hand on the E brake. Keep extra distance between you and the vehicle in front of you and maybe even go to neutral at stops for the first few miles.

Mine sometimes lunges forward a bit (1-2 feet) when not fully up to operating temps. I just thought it was normal since it does it often. It does go away once it's up to temp.

I am guessing that you didn't let the idle settle before you started driving. With stock/tuned etc configurations it all seems to be the same. Watch the tac and you'll see. Mine has never advanced like that before for sure but I do feel it if it is super cold.

If the A/C or either defrost mode is selected, the engine's idle is bumped a bit when the compressor engages. It's sometimes called compressor surge. If your foot is not firmly on the brakes it can make the surge feel much stronger than it really is.

Not saying this is what happened. Just a possibility

    Are you running a k & N filter?

I'm not using a K&N filter. Also note that before driving it, it was running for about 10 minutes.

Thanks for the reply. I 'm quite positive the defrost fan was on already.

Yeah but the compressor kicks on and off at intervals changing the load anytime defrost is on. You need to make sure you have a firm foot on the brake especially with defrost or AC running.

Thanks for your reply...but my foot was on the brake -- it never moved...recall I was almost at a stop. If by chance (and I'm positive it wasn't), my foot happen to be on both pedals, the brake will trump the accelerator pedal anyway.

My bet is, the OP was too light on the brake, the AC compressor cycled and caused the truck to go to high idle (1100 RPM) and the truck moved forward. It stunned him and he didn't hit the brake with adequate pressure for 20 feet or so.

The compressor will cycle at any time, regardless of setting or on or off. It does this periodically to keep the seals from drying up due to lack of use.

Thinking the same thing especially in a brand new truck.

Thanks for the response, but it was 30 degrees Fahrenheit that morning.

Wasn't there a story in the news a couple years back about this happening with a 2016 Tacoma and it lunged from the driveway into the side of a house? I'll see if I can dig it up

edit: didn't find that particular story but if you google "Toyota unexpected acceleration" this is apparently a well-documented issue that's been going on for years...weird.
