...now I have some ghosting of the previous bedside decal.
Its not residue. I got it all off with goo gone. It is more of a discoloring from parts previously not hit by direct sunlight is my guess.

Anyone else run into this or have any recommendations?

@CBoy808 is sending me some modified replacements (pic) in matte, but its not the same decal so I need to address it before applying the new one.

I’ll jist say that I used goo gone too on my last Tacoma and it did the same thing. Mine was MGM so it was worse. Maybe get it buffer?

The ghosting will go away eventually, a good waxing will help. @CBoy808 does really nice work.

Didn't notice anything like that with mine. Have you tried waxing it?

EDIT: agree with jwc, try waxing.

Some dudes on here always say to hit it with sealant after removing it. cBoy makes excellent work, they're die-cut decals so they'll catch a shit ton of lint from towels.

Satoshi, debadged, rear view mirror bracket, tail gate hose clamps, trimmed mud flaps.
All of this in cool shade...

Do another round of goo gone, let the goo sit for 10 min and don’t let the goo dry, then elbow grease and remove goo.

Wash area with car wash soap, then dry.

Use rubbing compound on the area. And if you really wanna get it right, clay also.

    Wash and dry area again.

    Use a sealant over area.

I would wax it really good a couple of times. The sun should blend it back in. If you put on new stickers make sure you use denatured alcohol to prep the surface.

If you have access to a polisher, a little bit of paint correction would whip that right out. You could do it by hand too with a little bit of effort. I polished mine out with a porter cable and detailing products.

A good cleaner wax or polish with a machine will remove the ghosting.

Thanks all for the input. Looks like some detailing work is in the cards this weekend.

This guy. I just did mine today as well and the buffer with a bit of polish took that right off. Please don’t just wax over it, there’s residue there, it needs to come off.

The new stickers will hide most of that too.

You'll be the only one who will see it.

I try to tell my buddy that all the time lol. Waaaaay easier said than done. If you don't have a buffer I would just get the bottle of compound and a little circle yellow foam pad and try that. If it doesn't work I would put the sticker over it. But again. Easier said than done.

Did this on my mgm, no issues. I did use cleaner wax and polisher post removal though

The new sticker will not be a 1:1. Lettering is a little different so good chance it would show through and drive me nuts.
Plan is to buff it out with some compound then polish. May buy an orbital. I do all my own wax anyways and that will save me time in the future.

After I got the decal off, I used goo gone to remove the residue and then goof off with a terry towel and elbow grease.
Needing to up the ante, so gonna follow these guys’ advice and go with a compound and buffer then polish.

Wet sand it a little with some 13 micron, high speed buffer with a lambs wool, finis pad and then some 3m hand glaze. This will keep it from coming back.
