Transfer Case Fill Plug Size

    Hey guys,

    Just changed my transfer case oil to Redline D4 ATF. It was a pain in the butt to get the fill plug off but I got it off and changed the oil. I need to replace the fill plug ASAP and I'm having a hard time finding a replacement bolt. Any help would be very much appreciated.

    I would try your local Toyota dealer. They will most likely have it in stock.

    90341-18006

    And the crush gaskets are:

    90430-A0003

    transmission or transfer case?


    I would not run ATF in the transfer case for any extended period of time

    I just noticed that he used ATF for the transfer case. That can't be good.

    I think it would be the same, AFAIK the transfer case internals are the same but the input shaft varies between auto/manual.

    My truck is MT and I did run D4 ATF in transfer case. Did I goof on that?

    You're supposed to use gear oil for both, I believe the viscosity is
    $30 75W-90 Synthetic Gear Lube - 1 Quart (Pack of 2)
    75W-90 as stated above.

    I know some different cars use ATF for manual transmissions. Early 2000's Ford Mustangs use ATF instead of gear oil.

    I run Redline MT90 for transmission. Redline 75W30 for front and rear diff. I thought the D4 ATF would work for transfer case. Do I need to drain that quick?

    MT90 will make for a happy manual transmission and 75W80 is good for the diffs. Hopefully someone with the FSM can confirm but I want to say SAE75W-90 is what the tcase calls for, I think ATF is too thin.

    Okay, you guys are correct. The ATF is not good for the transfer case. I called Redline and they are sending me 75W90 GL-5. Thanks for helping me out here guys. I will drain the ATF immediately. You guys saved the day.

    Ya, but they also reccomendend the ATF for my truck's transfer case on their website and realized they messed up.
