Hey guys just stumbled across this site, boy what a find!!

So as the title says my touch screen is going all white then will come to life after warming up a bit. Is there anything I can do to fix this besides getting a new unit. Could I resolder the screen to the board? Or are there cheaper replacement control boards? I dont know much about car electronics but if someone could point me in the right direction that would be awesome!!

Which unit do you have? Buying a new one may be your best bet.

Posting which model truck and which head unit you have would help.

It might be easy to find a used replacement cheap, as many folks swap theirs out for aftermarket stuff

Reception is starting to crap out on mine, touch screen still appears to be working good.

I've been having the issues too on cold mornings <35 degrees. Everything is frozen except volume control on steering wheel for the first 5 minutes or so. Talked to my cousin that is a technician at a Toyota dealer. He said it's dying. luckily i'm still a few hundred miles within my first 12 months/12k miles of my CPO warranty. he's going to bring a new one home and we'll swap out.

On that note though, I'd love to upgrade to an aftermarket with Apple carplay.

Buy an aftermarket screen. You'll be glad you did. I'm running a Kenwood DDX9903S currently (older model) and it's light years ahead of the stock unit even the highest end unit in the 3rd gens. Get something similar with Android Auto or Apple Car Play depending on your phone of choice.

Is failure a common problem? First I'm hearing about it, and I have a 2013 AC with the base radio as well. I added an OEM+ system to it. It's an amp/processor under the seat that plugs into the factory unit and includes replacement speakers and a sub. It's fantastic, but won't work with an aftermarket head unit, so I kind of need my factory radio to last.

b_r_o ahhh like a 3rd gen Tacoma haha I got it.. took me a second there. Looks like a sweet setup you got there.

ItalynStylion So how does switching to an after market screen work ? Are there certain compatibility factors that I need to keep in mind ? Like specific connection headers, screen size, speaker driver requirements, ect..

The existing headunit just comes out and you put a new one right in. The OEM unit is a double din form factor and the new one should be too. Make sure you get either a Schoshe, Mentra, or similar dash kit that you like the look of. This is the area around the stereo. As far as compatibility with existing features, maintaining the steering wheel controls is definitely possible with an adapter (I did it) and is a joy to use. Speakers shouldn't NEED to be changed unless you're looking to upgrade.

You can purchase a new touch screen overly which comes with a screen, but you have to get it from a China and can run you $125 and it’s a pita to tear the unit apart and install it, there is another thread on here where a guy did it. The wrecking yards have radios but the problem I have found with 90% of these is that they have water damage especially if the windshield was broken and the unit sat out at the auction yards till it was purchased by a wrecking yard. I’m with the guys that say get an aftermarket unit.

You're welcome. I've run everything under the sun so I have experience in the area. I've run a variety of traditional double din headunits as well as two custom android tablet solutions that I created myself.

what did you find out? I found out that there are NO aftermarket stereos that can unitize (with our without an adapter) the stock OEM sat antenna. Can you verify? What has been your experience thus far?
