I have the in-laws in town and staying with me, so last night I snuck out to the garage to get a little break.

I hear this buzzing coming from my truck ('16 with 15k miles) and couldn't figure out where it was coming from. I crawled under and it was most definitely the fuel pump running with the ignition off.

Of course I freak out and think something's gone amuck, but I jumped on the forum and after a little research, found out that it's the system doing a safety check. Apparently that little tidbit of info is written in the owner's manual, but I never got to that page -- obviously.

So just a little shout out to this group and the resource available to all us Toyota people. Much appreciated.

Yeah, exact same thing happened to me haha. First vehicle to ever do that that I noticed. I haven't caught it doing it in a while now.

The Tacoma is nothing compared to the Prius when it comes to crazy noises! I was out in the garage late one evening after we bought my wife's Prius and that darn thing started making all kinds of crazy noises, I just about wet myself :rofl:Sounded like a 747 rolling down the runway!:D

My wife's Subaru does the same. Its pretty loud in comparison to my Tacoma.
Totally normal, but yes, alarming at the same time.

You aren't kidding. I had an 08 Prius for a while, and that SOB would make noises like you wouldn't believe. I'm pretty sure the sound effects from the Transformer movies were recorded via a Prius sitting idle.

I'm willing to bet there isn't an auto forum with more knowledge than this one. If I have a question, I ask, not usually 10 minutes go by before I have a good answer. Had a question on my wife's rav4 and posted on a different forum. 6 days went by and someone chimes in, "did you read the manual?".

Hey, I wanted to thank you for this thread. Mine was doing it tonight and I was planning how to come up with money for a new fuel pump lol. My warranty ran out 2 months ago. THANK YOU!
