Suppressing an AK

I want to get a suppressor for my rifles and a 30 cal is the biggest I own. I want to suppress my ak but I've heard there's a few things you have to look out for like making sure the threads on the barrel line up with the bore and that there's no shoulder on the threads leaving it up to the front sight post for the suppressor to rest against.
I have a Romanian wasr-10 that was made on vodka friday and the front sight post was canted off to the left to begin with lol (I took a hammer and beat it upright again)
Would you recommend I don't even try to put a suppressor on this ak and buy a higher quality one to suppress? I don't wanna buy a suppressor and wait for the atf just to put it on the ak and have a baffle strike the first time I use it

 

I wouldn't trust the threads on my Romanian to a new suppressor.

If you plan on putting it on your other rifles, you know the AK's are threaded ass backwards...right?

 

Yeah I know lol I was gonna cross that bridge when I got to it but it seems like I wont be getting to that bridge with the Romanian rifle at least

 

Just grab an oil filter adapter and tape your tax stamp to it. Russian ingenuity strikes again!

 

There's a few issues with suppressing an AK47, actually. The most concerning is probably the one you've touched on and that's the concentricity of the threads on the barrel. They were never created with suppression in mind so hanging some sort of FH on it was about all they were intended for. Making sure they are concentric to the bore of the barrel would be step one. Step two would be the type of shoulder that exists to square the suppressor up to if you successfully pass step one (these tend to be related so you can call them 1a and 1b if you like). If you pass both of those I will be amazed. If not you need to do some cutting/re-threading which will increase the cost of the project. The last point to make is that AK47's don't suppress very well as compared to other hosts if sound deadening is the goal, which it usually is for suppressing. So it's a lot of hoops to jump through only to be disappointed in the end most likely which is why you don't see a lot of suppressed AK47 style rifles.

My Iraqi Contractor wasr is suppressed, I had my gunsmith check concentricity and install a flash hider for my Griffin Recce 7. It shoots great and the difference is worth it.

 

I'm looking around at a few local gun shops now to see if they can take care of threading my barrel for me and making sure everything is lined up for the day that I finally get the call to pick up my suppressor. I feel like it'll be easier and cheaper than building a 7.62x39 AR style rifle
