Ok, got an Echo Dot as a random Christmas present. Didn't ask for one, didn't particularly want one. But laying in bed later that night, my air compressor kicked on at about 1am, cause I had forgotten to kill the switch when I finished up out in the garage. That gave me an idea. It seems like my phone always goes of at the worst times. I'm under a vehicle or all pretzeled up reaching a hidden bolt and it goes off. And unfortunately, I gotta answer it most of the time. On-call a lot and my parents are getting older, need help here and there.

So today I set up the Echo Dot to run my garage with my voice. I can answer the phone on the ECHO Speaker. And using a couple of outlet controllers I can control the lights, compressor, cordless battery chargers, play/pause/volume adjust the stereo. I tired it from all over the garage and it hears me and follows the comands very well. Actually, I can do all that from anywhere my phone gets the house wifi. Pretty handy to kick the compressor on a few minutes before I go out to use an air tool.

Some folks worry about being spied on by these things. I figure the only thing Alexa is gonna get outta listening to me in the garage is learning new ways to curse! Just a use for something that may not have occured to everybody.

We have 5 Echo devices in our home and my garage, I can control the entire house with my voice. It’s great.

And as far as being spied on, if they want to listenthe worlds most boring person, more power to them
