Sealing rear vents on back wall ... bad idea?

Sooo... What would happen if I sealed the two rear vents on the back wall behind the storage bins? What are they for exactly? Equalizing pressure inside the cab to the outside pressure?

Each bass note from the sub makes them rattle.

Your doors wouldn't close easily and when you went to turn the heat or AC on there wouldn't be nearly as much air flow. Probably fog up a lot inside windows too because the moisture from breathing would build up.

Bad idea. You will struggle to shut the doors with the windows up and moisture will be much worse. Also, your HVAC is not going to pump air.

I haven't looked at them, but they are usually flappy rubber. It might not be them rattling? Maybe some sound mat?

They are for the above and your HVAC system. Effectively, if you block them off your HVAC would not have the ability for fresh air (flow through) setting.

Root cause analysis would suggest to fix the cause, not the symptoms.

And doubtful the vents are what is rattling anyway.

Put Noico or Dynamat on back wall, cover that with a layer of 1lb sq ft MLV layered in foam. I used Dynapad on the back wall, and cut some pieces to make a curve over the vents so they were double covered. You do lose a bit of air flow, but after doing the back and the doors it is much, much quieter in the cab.

Only about 60%, the other 40% would make the Sphinx happy he doesn’t have a nose

What is rattling is the whole vent unit....not the flaps themselves. If you look at them, the plastic unit does NOT fit tight and is VERY loose... Silicone around the "unit" to holt it against the cab will fix rattle.

That's an excellent point. Already have double layers of sound deadener (Stinger Roadkill), but have not thought of this. Thanks!

    Negative air pressure. Bad idea.

Next time you go into a public bathroom look at the vents on the bottom of the doors. Same purpose and intent for cab vents.
