What makes it worth the $100? I'm intrigued.

I followed this thread for the outcome. Good choice not giving into the dealer. I saw the abs sensor protectors while searching around last month, good investment I guess! A good offroad buddy of mine said he didn't like offroading in freezing weather after his brother severed trans cooler lines on a jeep. Ice is the enemy!!!

Hey guys just for future reference, autozone price matches Amazon! Plus they can get items shipped to the store faster than primes 2 day shipping. My sensor should be in tomorrow morning around 11am. I went ahead and took the old one out. Took a few minutes to figure out how to get the clip undone but pretty self explanatory. Plastic piece with the bolt on it was barely hanging on and me unscrewing it broke it clean off. You can see the damage to the sensor too. 20190101_201958.jpg 20190101_202036.jpg

Image of the hole/space the sensor came out of, and the plug. I put some tape over them both temporarily while I wait on that new sensor, idk how sensitive these things are to dirt/debris.

Did you ever admit to offroading in public? Is there mud or debris on the undercarriage? Then unfortunately no. It sucks to hear, but thank goodness you learned this lesson for less than $1000.

That's not just a Toyota policy, that's all dealers, all brands of 4x4. I learned that the hard way a long long time ago in a galaxy far far away- for me it was a transmission and transfer box on a 3 month old Nissan. If they can prove it was off pavement, or if (they can document that) you admit to it being off pavement, its considered "excessive wear and tear" and not a manufacturers' defect, therefore, no warranty.

I never used the word "offroading" but i did say " a dirt road". Just really lame of toyota both for puting a fragile expensive sensor there and lame for not covering it under warranty. This is a 4x4 truck and is advertised off pavement in every ad and every brochure.
But you're right. I am Lucky the damage wasnt too pricey and now lesson learned

Exactly, the engineers designed it to crawl, the advertisers will claim that it can walk on water, and the company lawyers say "have fun, but not on our dime."

Hmmmm, looks like I'd just need to get a bit longer bold and fab something up to cover the sensor/connector. Kewl

    Thanks

    Got my guards on! 20190104_165028.jpg

Sdhq guard install easy enough. Apparently according to the install instructions the Tacoma doesn't need one on the passenger rear side because its behind the axle. The kit comes with 4 though so it's applicable for all toyota trucks so I just installed it anyways. That particular one is upside down compared to the other 3 so the guard is aswell so idk if its even gonna do anything but why not. The way the sensors mount in the rear is allitle trickier than the fronts but if you follow the SDHQ instructions its easy.

Plus used my new scan tool linked in the thread earlier and no codes no problems no issues all patched up and stronger than ever now :)
