Idle water temp & fluctuations

For those that have a scan gauge and monitor engine water temps, what is the highest temp you see at idle?
I recently changed my water pump and temps were spiking to 210F at most when idling in place after I changed it. When driving around, it was much more reasonable at around 184-188 (which is where it has been consistently in the past).
I figured this was because my fan clutch fluid coupler was bad which is why my idle temps were so high (fan not fully engaging to pass more air). I figured this by testing how easy it was to rotate the fan by hand when it was both cold and warmed up.
Although after changing the fan clutch, I am still seeing max idle water temps of around 200F or so after up to temp.
Are these temps safe/normal for a 3rz engine? They have never fluctuated as much as they are now with the new water pump, fresh coolant, and new fan clutch. It seems pretty weird considering it should be staying cooler than it was before with a leaky water pump and dirty coolant.

 

Did you burp the system to remove air pockets?

 

Anybody know at what temp the thermostat is fully open? I think attempts to keep it cooler than the full open temp will just result in the thermostat throttling down to bring the temp back up. If it's getting hotter than full open temp then it's time to do something about it. Haven't messed with the Tacoma much but got an ultragauge and done a bunch of research on the 80. I watch that one like a hawk.

 

As far as I know all I had to do to burp the system was run it with the radiator cap off and fill it as air pockets come out and the level went down.

I did this, but if there is something else I missed let me know.

Also if I remember right the thermostat has a small hole in it which needs to be positioned at the 12 o’clock. Someone else may need to verify that, it’s been awhile.

 

Earlier today I actually went out and bought that exact thing. Although it seems the system is already full and clear of air because it won't drink any more coolant.

I have been looking into the thermostat now. I have never touched it since owning the truck so maybe its on its way out?

I'm debating about pulling the trigger on the LCE 180 degree thermostat. I just really don't want to have to drain the coolant all over again to swap the thermostat. But if it comes to that, so be it.

I’d try burping it with the funnel first if that doesn’t work move to the thermostat.

 

That's pretty much the point I am at.

I am going to try again later when it has had a chance to completely cool down, then run it with the funnel on for about 10 minutes.

If I don't see any more air come out, i'll probably order a thermostat. $30 isn't too bad for a better thermostat and gasket shipped to my door.
