Joined so I could research a used Tacoma. Looking at finding one this Spring, have always loved the size and style of them. Looking forward to learning the good and bad about them.

Looking at 2000 to 2012 or somewhere around there. Going to be a 2nd vehicle, mostly on road, or back through the woods when I need to get something. I do like the Pre-Runners....but may need the 4wd for our lovely lake effect winters here in NY.

2000-2012 crosses a few different generations
2005-20015 is the second generation Tacoma's I don't know much about them except they where completely redesigned, different frame/engine they are a bit larger than first, knob 4x4 control and have the 3rd door for the extended cab.

    First gen body style 1995-5004
98-2000 where about the same inside and out. Many like the fact the 4x4 transfer case had a J shiftier, no push button solenoid in those years.
2001 changes the front end and hood some prefer that look better. and in not sure if it was 01 or 02 that the double-cab came out.
A wealth of information here https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/1st-gen-tacoma-buyers-guide.156943/

Either way check for rust. The frames where known for rust especially in salt areas. Arguments over steel manufacturing and all but they would rust form the inside out. So check for rust. Dont just look use a ball pen hammer and tap along the frame and listen for difference in sound. Around leaf springs mounts, and at the front sway bars and bottom side of the frame under the cab.

No truck is perfect but Tacoma owners love theirs more than anybody.

    Tons of help here.
If your not sure about one you can post pictures and cost and everyone will have an opinion on it.
Once you find one and want more information about something the search on the top right hand side, click more, then select the generation and then chose relevance. I did not know that at first, saves a lot of time.

Very smart to join the forum BEFORE you purchased one. I wish I had done that.
    Happy Tacoma hunting!

Not sure whether to ask here...or move to somewhere else...should I worry about a used one that says "frame recall done"? Do many owners encounter problems that pop up after recall is done? Or about high mileage 197K ?

The good is they’re great trucks run forever
The bad is you’ll never stop spending on mods and you can only fit so many women at one time in the cab and you’ll have to clean the stains off the seats.

There are some stories of guys that had problems after frame recall. sounds like the labor doing the work did not pay attention to things.
If it was done correctly it would be a good thing I think. The frame should be coated inside and out as soon as possible.
I would ask "what problems here there after the frame was replaced."
