I'm not sure why you would even consider a Sport if you off road. The Off Road has a stock rear locker and Manual Terrain Select (Atrac)

The 2nd gen sport had a stronger diff, threw arbs in there and it was better than the offroad. Wasn't sure if thats the case with the 3rd is all.

Just get a pro, it’s better than the off road because it has all the off road bits, skewp and all the cool Pro parts.

.....waits for explosion of pro haters. :boink:

Buy the off road, swap the hood. That's the most economical way to have the best of both worlds.

Be cheaper to go off road model and have it factory than tons of loot on an arb setup. Then you get atrac and those doodads. Price is same for sport and off-road. Even if it's 1000-1500 more for the off-road. It's already installed and warrantied. The hood scoop looks good, but trying to see over the standard hood is impossible unless you stick your head out the sunroof. Couldn't imagine with the scoop. You're better getting the off-road unless you plan on gutting and building the shit out of it, then it doesn't really matter

It's gonna be cheaper to buy an OR and then buy the scooped hood and paint it.

That will add about a $1000 more and you can always sell your new factory hood.

As someone who bought the sport and does off road it, I'll say a couple things things:

I too, love the the color matching and the scoop, and @ 6'2", I have zero problems with glare or seeing over the scoop, on or off road.

That said, I wish I'd gone for the OR and swapped hoods. I'm not gonna be satisfied until I have an ARB locker installed by a competent wrench. And even then, the other missing goodies will be in the back of my head.

OP, if you're gonna off road, go OR and swap the cosmetics. Nothing else makes sense.

As another sport owner I agree with the above.

I LOVE my sport and the hood scoop. I'm 5'8" and also have no issue what so ever with seeing over it or with sun glare -i really have no idea where this fake news came from... anyway...

My truck never leaves the pavement, apart from campgrounds or around a farm yard, so the 4x4 is all I need and it performs perfectly for my purposes. That said, if I planned on ORing with it then I see no reason to not get the OR, that's what its tuned for specifically. One thing to note is that both MTS and locker on the OR require you to be in 4L, so functionality I'm not convinced it really adds much value, just ask yourself how often you use 4L, for me it is never.

Anyway gl OP, you'll be happy either way!

Buy the Off Road. Lots of people will agree that a locker is a good idea on a sport which is not wrong, but it also is fairly invasive.

There is also very little info on this transition or people that have done this. On top of all that, if something goes wrong this forum will be fairly unhelpful since very few have done this and is not a common add on to give sound advice about.

It’s you truck though ultimately. I would suggest driving all models and see for yourself. Don’t spend the extra money on the Pro though unless you have plenty of money to blow and don’t care about paying more for very few functional add ons.

Color match and scoop plus locker sounds like the man needs a Pro to me!

O.R. is nearly the same price as the Sport, yet you get the rear locker and more importantly "Crawl Control".

P.S. It is also a much smoother ride. Compare and you will agree.

Sport, and I added ARB Air-lockers. I think it looks great going anywhere.

Think about how in depth putting an aftermarket part like a locker is... If you break anything even closely related to the use of he locker the dealer will tell you it’s your fault.

Also, again it sounds easy to do yet how many members have actually done this? Next, if he has an issue who on here can give him good advice as to a remedy without taking it to a shop?

He can do whatever he feels is appropriate for his application, but it’s much easier to buy an Off Road with better suspension, a factory locker (that’s warrantied), and put the scooped hood on later.

I bought an Off Road because I think for the price it is a better value based on all parts being a seamless integration from the factory.
