I'm looking for deep only and ones I can use without an adapter. I like the Harbor Freight kit except it does not look like it comes with a carry case. It is all metric 10, 13, 14, 15, 17, 18, 19, 21, 22, 24, 27, 30 & 32. About the only one not there I'd like to have is a 12. I did see this one on Amazon. Very similar make up and it does have a 12 and a carry case. More money of course.

In your kit, the ones I'd like to have are deep 1/2" drive 24, 14 & 12.

 

I kinda have to keep buying sets to get a full rack and it's still not "full" by any means. But most of these are just random DeWalt and HF impact sockets. HF non impact sockets aren't worth it


Might I suggest buying socket rails so you can just take the commonly used ones with you when you go on a trip.

 

My personal opinion, I only ever use 6 point, unless it has to be a 12 point. Just grips the sides of a nut so much better. I can’t see a possible use for a 12 point impact socket

 

Just the little bit of Toyota front end work I’ve done, shallow 6 point impacts come in handy.

 

They're a god send when removing exhaust manifolds haha. Impact deep 12 all day

 

Now that I have a full set of impact guns and e-ratchets I only use impact sockets unless it’s super delicate.

 

Same, impact sockets are great, even on the ratchets. I keep some skinny small sockets too just in case I can't fit an impact sockets but 99.9% of the time I can. I haven't touched my chrome sockets in ages.

 

Go to a local pawn shop or something. They will have sockets for 0.25-0.50 cents a pop.

 

If it doesn’t torque in in. lbs., it gets the gun and an impact socket. I’ve got some big ass 12 points, like 37 and 38mm, those are for pushing seals in only.

 

Not very portable

In a pinch the deep sockets should work ion most situations.

Did it come with a carry case?

 

They're plenty portable, I don't use those trays, I put them on rails when we go on a trip. Links em all together

 

I’m partial to the tekton impact sets off Amazon. They are pretty compact and fit nicely in a toolbox.

 

I also don’t get to go on as long of trips as a lot of you guys, so economy of space isn’t that important, I carry a full set of everything in whichever vehicle is going off highway for the day.

 

@joshipps you ever find yourself cussing the manual trans in our trucks? It's so bad compared to all other MT's I've ever driven, including 70's dump trucks lol. Ive been driving it for almost 6 years and still it is hard to get consistent good shifts.

Edit: I realize it's probably a big part of what the ECU does between shifts. The trans as a whole is good if I had to say one good thing. I mean it's never let me down.

 

Damn. Too bad. If I go that route, would have to figure out a holder system for them. No room in the toobox.

 

I use a tool roll already for my "basic tool kit," and I really like it - compact and lots of tools. I got this one after a lot of research: CLC 1173 32 Pocket Socket Tool Roll Pouch

Great thing about it is that it has a flap to hold the sockets in so they don't spill out every time you unroll it. and holy smokes, it's a smoking deal right now at $12.97. I'm going to buy another.

Here's what I have in mine, all fits with no problem:

• Several 3/8" sockets in the following sizes: 10mm, 12mm, 13mm, 14mm, 17mm, 19mm, 21mm, 22mm, 24mm
• 3/8" Spark plug socket (5/8" or 16mm)
• 3/8” socket extensions - 3-, 6-, 10-inch lengths
• 3/8" ratchet - do yourself a favor that I didn't , and get a flex head for access to more bolts.
• Several crescent wrenches in the following sizes: 8mm, 10mm, 12mm, 13mm, 14mm, 17mm, 19mm, 21mm, 22mm
• Set of metric Allen/hex key's ranging up to 10mm
• 10mm flare nut wrench for working with brake lines
• Wire cutters
• Needle nose pliers
• Channellock pliers
• Adjustable wrenches - 4.5-inch, 8-inch, 10-inch. I've found these to be quite valuable for holding a nut when tightening a bolt, or for hex head sizes I don't have a dedicated wrench/socket for (usually aftermarket parts).
• Several screw drivers: Flat screw driver, Philips screw driver, Long flat screw driver.
• A retractable razor utility knife
• Reusable zip ties
• Some wire
• Some electrical tape

 

I have a tool roll similar as well. It's nice having everything organized for basic tools like others said. I need to start buying tools that are exclusively for the truck though. Starting to get tired of having to get tools out of the truck when I want to work on something in the garage.

 

Im just going to buy some Kazian foam or whatever for one of my smaller military boxes and making cutouts for everything and making sure theres no duplicates and crap.

 

All the time. I thought I was a total r-tard and didn't know how to drive a manual when I first started driving this thing. I've gotten much better at it now - thankfully. But still have some learning to do.

Definitely the weirdest manual trans I've ever dealt with.

 

Well I'm already using the space and box for tools. Just be way more efficient.
