So on my ‘16 trd off road with the toytec 2.5 boss kit installed, I am getting a clunk noise that I believe is coming from the Passenger side. It happens more often now that it is cold. I have already replaced the front radiator mounts as those were chewed up bad. I also have TC ucas and for some reason my driver side bushings in the ucas have been protruding. Could this cause my clunking especially in the cold? Or could it be the cab mounts? I was also thinking it could be the springs as it makes the noise over pot holes or man hole covers not over speed bumps. I have gone under the truck and re torqued all suspension/steering components. Any other ideas would be appreciated 338E025B-3714-49B2-86D9-C592A60AEC7D.jpg752249C4-A295-4178-A93A-DFFB9275312B.jpg

I have the relocate kit on and I checked for any wear on components that could touch and I don’t see anything.

I have been considering the lca bushings but I was hoping their is an easy way to check to see if those are bad before I replace them as it seems to be a pain in the a**.

Is the “clunk” noise occurring when your turning? Or driving fairly straight?

Jack up one side so the tire is couple inches off the ground...have helper apply brakes...insert long bar 1/3 to 1/2 of the way under tire...pull and push up...look and listen for play.

Ronzio, I will give that a try. Thank you.
CT, it happens on both. It is more prominent when cold outside like early mornings and if I hit a unnoticeable hole in the road, it sounds horrible. But when warms up, it doesn’t do it.

Got it. Have you done a Cab Mount Chop or cut any of your wheel well plastics? Are your front tires catching on anything when your hitting bumps or turning?
I was hearing clunking and rubbing noises pre CMC/cutting. Post CMC/cutting took care of the trouble spots.

I have not done a cab mount chop. Small amount of cut plastic. But the sound is not that of rubbing. I have been running this set up for nearly three years and it is just getting progressively worse. It sounds like metal clashing on metal almost like my shock is blown and my springs are hitting the top plate. But my shocks look good no fluid leaks or anything

I had a sound like this too. Found out that the bolt on my sway bar link was too long and hitting my 2.5” shocks.

    Looked like this:

Another clunk I have heard is the rear Dakars moving and it clunks at the mounts due to the bushing sliding and the military wrap clunks.

Looks to me like your UCA bolts have been over-torqued, then had too much grease pumped in. You may be able to reuse the existing bushings, but until you remove them you won't know. They are pretty cheap as I remember.

Edit - They get that bloated look if the grease has nowhere to escape...

When greasing the TC uca's did you loosen the thru-bolt like TC recommends? That may be why the bushing is deformed.
Also I just went through this on my truck, it turned out to be the coilover for me. I swapped them for my stock setup with a spacer and the sound went away. In my research I found noises caused by the front body mounts (already addressed), loose lca bolts, bad sway bar links, sway bar not centered in bushings, loose transmission cross member bolts, bad shocks, rear leaf spring military wrap, and a few others that I will have to remember. I started by torquing all the bolts and started a process of elimination.

I can confirm this does indeed happen. I have Icon UCAs and I was greasing them like you would a drive shaft (pump till it comes out) and didn't release the bolt. I watched in horror as the bushing started to deform. Once I realized what was happening I used a paper clip to hit the zerk valve and allowed the grease to come back out and relieve the pressure. Good learning experience.

@ammolacky please contact us or an authorized dealer to order a replacement set of bushings. These should be replaced since they are deformed. As @trdt44 asked, did you loosen the thru-bolt before greasing? Failure to do so will result in deformation of the bushings. We do have more information on replacement and maintenance in the following threads

@TOTAL CHAOS, I appreciate the input and I will most definitely get them replaced. I will from now on ensure that the bolt gets loosened prior to greasing. Everyone's responses have been helpful. I hope I can pinpoint the clunking noise by re-torqueing everything again. Will keep you informed if I find something. Thanks again!

    Happy to help!

Double-check your body mount hardware and visually inspect the lower rod end of the front shocks. It's a possibility something isn't torqued properly.

Please keep us in the loop if the noise continues.
