Hey guys. I got my 2019 SR this past Saturday. I am wanting to put on of these mini receiver hitches (pictured below) that bolts to the bumper. When I looked at the bottom of the rear bumper it doesn't look very sturdy for bolting one of these to. I will have to build an adapter plate for it but what do you guys think?

Taco rear bumpers are weak crap at best. I wouldn’t tow anything attached to the bumper. You can get a class I, II or III tow hitch for $100. Don’t tow with your bumper.

Gotcha! That is kinda what I was thinking. The bumper underside looks really weak. Thanks.

Agreed, I wouldn't tow from bumper either.

You’re better off tiring a rope to your truck’s frame and towing with that..... just get a real tow hitch from uhaul

The rear bumper is rated for 3500. That receiver is rated for 3500. You're still towing on the bumper. The only thing you gain is the ability to swap out receivers/balls/accessories. If you want to tow heavier, you need an actual receiver. I've towed with that exact piece on a first gen and it worked fine, the bumper is no worse than bumpers on any other truck. But you have to stay in its limits.

A 3rd gen rear bumper should not be towed from.... its literally 5 pieces of plastic with a thin piece of metal across the top under the plastic.
Use the reciever that is mounted to the frame.

Headed today to get a full hitch. After looking at the bumper again, it is literally as you have described. Sad

I've not seen that before. Even trucks sold without bumpers have a usable bumper once jnstalled.

Thanks Man. I actually picked a Reese hitch on C/L for $45 this past weekend. I will be installing it later this week, need to hit Lowes and get some new bolts.
