Fast curing are you using vacuum bag or prepreg and clamp what weave cloth ? How far will you have to scarf down ? Polyester resin not holding up under water applications I disagree but it does depend on top coat system gelcoat or rubber and strength/ cure additives. We used it all the time on spiral wound solid fiberglass nose radome repairs and honeycomb phenolic nose and tail radome's. Of course that was before we finally came into the 20 century and went to epoxy :} DEH 52 hardener or 828 with versamid. We got chopper guns for a while and were using Modar it was great. Wax up a mold spray it, roll it out, bag it, heat it for 20 min. Then pop it off the mold trim and paint done start to paint drying in less then a hour.

1.5oz mat, 6oz cloth. I wasn't going to make a mold. What I was planning to do was remove the existing from the cracked area back until I got to solid attachment. There's steel running down the trailing side of the keel with the bottom foot or so with three pieces of steel welded together. I don't know yet how the wood is attached to the steel or even if it is. As for thickness to scarf off, not sure as I haven't started yet. I'd take all of the fiberglass off of the keel but I really don't want to mess around with the section that swings and fits in the keel pocket as the fit is nice without too much play. Stripping the keel completely would require refitting. It may come down to that though. I'll take a lot of measurements before I start. I have the keel sitting on it's trailing edge on a dolley with forks holding it up. The plan is to work on it that way or lift it up on saw horses held similarly. I was thinking that I would be able to wrap the mat from one side over the leading edge to the other side (after I remove the existing and repair/replace the wood). All of the tech sheets I read don't recommend polyester resin for underwater use, hence the epoxy. I've used epoxy in the past at my former job so I'm comfortable working with it. I'm all for any advice.

    All from death valley
A storm blew through last night and covered the Sierra in snow, an amazing view.

We had 4 vehicles at the beginning (a wrangler, a newer 4 runner, a cherokee and my Tacoma) , the first day, the wrangler lost 4wd and headed out. Day 2, the Cherokee lost a steering stabilizer and broke the rear swaybar but kept going

Do you have a vacuum pump ? Will it be indoors for the repair cycle ?.

Let's see if this works. If you fast forward to about 11 minutes there's some of my work. Actually I cleaned up pretty much all the small washes after the crappy pavement, but the 11 minute mark through the next 2 washes is a recut.
