    1. Winches were on three of four vehicles.
    2. Not ill prepared. 3 sets of treds total. Lots of slings. Plus, getting stuck wouldn't have been that big of deal. I have sleeping bags, and pads, and food, and a stove. extra clothes. I'm prepared.
3 & 4. Probably a poor decision on my part electing to travel down the road to Gold Lake boat ramp. It looked pretty solid, and good packed base. Just got pulled into ditch. Narrow road. Trying to back out is difficult as any time you try to turn the wheel at all the nose swings to one side or the other depending on which way you turn the wheel. Kept getting sucked into one side or the other. Then reluctant to bring anther vehicle down to me for fear of that one getting stuck, as well. We got my truck out a few feet at a time using skids. But as time passed, the storm moved in full force.
Wasn't that much snow in the beginning, but it began to pile up quickly.

As for CalTrans, it was just a passing comment by me. I wouldn't expect them to assist. Though I doubt they'd just blow us off. Not really an issue, as we got out fine.

Plus, how fun would this story be if we didn't embellish some?

If only you had been there.

Donner Summit now closed in both directions due to no visibility and heavy snow.

My 2019 camping report thus far:

1/6/19, San Jose: Crawled my way through the Valley Fair Mall parking structure and found about 125 people camped out in line for some new ramen place. As I do not speak Japanese, I was unable to communicate with any of them that there was, in fact, *another* ramen place in the mall. I presume that they have all since perished of starvation. A sad tale to start the year.
