    What are my options?
    Will a 2wd rear work as long as the door panel has the B03A code?
    What other years, makes, if any, will work that are a direct swap?
    Rear is beyond saving in this one FYI

    Thanks in advance

    stuff and things that make it better
    Welcome to TacomaWorld.
    Need a little more info, are you 4x4? Do you have a locker? The Door number you gave looks to be a 4.10's (there have been a few people that have reported that they have different gear ratios from what the documented data suggests, easiest way to find out for sure is to jack up the back, spin the tire once and count the revolutions of the pinion).
    All non locker, 6 lug Tacomas from 1995.5- 2015, T100's, early model Tundras and Sequoias have the same 8.4" rear diff. You can swap in any of them. Hope this helps.

    Mine is a 4x4, yes. From what the door tag reads, mine is a non lsd 4.10 rear. I'm afraid turning it is not an option, it's locked up and destroyed
    I am wanting to swap in a whole used rear
    Thank you for the help

    If it came out of a 2WD V6 B03A should work. A03A will not work. (2wd 4cyl usually)

    Car-Part.com Give that a shot. Search the name "carrier" when asked for part type

    he said B03A

    First digit:

    A = 7.5" ring gear
    B = 8" ring gear

    Next two digits:

    01 = 3:42
    02 = 3:58
    03 = 4:10
    04 = 4:56
    05 = 3:15
    06 = 3:91

    Last digit:

    A = 2 Pinion, Open
    B = 4 Pinion, Open
    C = 2 Pinion OEM Limited Slip

    8" (8.4 really) 4:10 2 Pinion Open

    So it sounds like it could be either of the two I mentioned right. Both are 8" ring, one has elocker, but both are open. So now we have to determine whether he has the locker or not to figure out his compatibility. Unless the 2 pinion and 4 pinion is what the difference maker is there, I'm not that clear there.

    If that's the case, then he can pull an 8.4 rear from any T100, 95-15 Taco, and 1st gen Tundra. Hardest part would be to match the gear ratio.

    Second gen tacos and tundra have wider spring perches I believe. Would be better off sticking with first gen axles.

    Picked up a b03a rear today, 128,xxx miles and 6 month warranty for $400. So now of course someone emails me back from Craigslist who has an rocker rear out of an 02 tacoma. I will ask a guy who was looki g for one if he is interested in the one I just drove 6 hours for, if he does I'll be installing the rocker rear.
    As for the rear, the pinion is pulled through the front of the casing, or looks like something let go. It was in the snow so luckily the guy driving wasn't going fast but he still ended up in the ditch with no damage (other than the rear obviously).
    I would rather ditch the electronic locker and make it manual locker to be honest but don't mind doing the wiring if need be.

    How are the earlier gen 1 4x4 in the snow with an open rear? Is the front open also? It has new 31, look to be mud terrain tires but didn't get the name. Just bought the truck, needed something decent in the snow and I hated my 4x4 Dakota

    Thanks for all the help

    My 1995 4x4 3RZ W59 is great in the snow and it has Open front and rear diffs.

    Lockers are great when you know you will have a wheel in the air mainly like when rock crawling or heavy off roading. As far as daily driving in snow, Open diffs have been fine for me.
