I had ‘16 Sport. I off roaded it. It did fine. But when I got in an accident and I had a chance to get a new truck I with an OR. All of the mods I was doing to the truck were to make it more like an OR. I do miss the scoop. Never had any issues seeing over it.

Go OR an swap hoods if you gonna replace factory suspension get the better wheeling features of the OR. Has one locker already its alot cheaper to just add a front locker an hood than to have 2 lockers installed on a sport plus you have some minor extra protection with the stock skids.
Bigger rearend wouldnt sway me the taco dont make enough power to make that a factor.

I was in this same situation. Gravitated to the hood scoop, and always planned on buying a Sport. Once it involved me seperating from my hard earned cash, I figured I would go for the best bang for my buck. I went OR and figure I can always change the hood. Easier and cheaper to make an OR a sport, then a sport an OR. Of course if you’re planning on changing suspension and lockers regardless, then get the Sport.

I love my sport so far but y’all are making me feel like it’s shit compared to OR. I just don’t want to get stuck on my farm or on small trails.

Just get a set of these or similar and go anywhere in confidence, at least mud or snow related. I have an OR with a lift, upgraded tires, and all the dohickeys that come with the OR over the sport and still need them.

We all shit-talk each other. Keeps the skin thick for troll fighting.

Besides, imagine all the lockers that only get used when jumping the curb between the mall and Burger-King.

Bringing this thread back to life boys!! I’m in this situation and want to see if any opinions have changed… just totaled my 2011 trd off-road 4x4. Loved my truck and never had any complaints. I live down in south Florida and would say I’m an avid off-roader. Can only think of a couple time where I actually need to use the e-locker in 4L. Usually just putting in 4h would get the job done… anyways been doing some car shopping and trying to decide to get the sr5, sport, or offroad. Current market is absolutely insane! No matter what trim level I get I will definitely be changing suspension, and adding weight. The best deal I can find right now is on a trd sport. My initial thoughts are to grab it and if down the line I feel like I need the locker then I can add the arb. being able to use the arb locker in 2h, 4h seems like a pretty nice added benefit. Just curious what everyone’s opinions are now that we are in 2024.

OP - what decision did you make? How did it all work out for you?

Lmao yeah, probably should’ve looked at that first. Who knows maybe his sixth sense will start tingling and he’ll log back in before I pull the trigger on something.

I get much more use out of a-trac/mts than I do the rear locker. If, as you say, are mostly using 4hi you probably don’t need either.
