What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

The replacement windshield from Safelite for my 2004 Ram was $250 so I'm sure the Tacoma would be cheaper since it's a smaller piece of glass.

 

So got bored at work and decided to do the grunt work in anycase of my alternator being gone. From what I've read and picked up on the only things I need are:

And a spacer, then it becomes a plug and play upgrade correct? I've seen some write-ups where they cut up the stock harness and I don't wanna do that because I'm going to rebuild my old alternator just in case.

 

My was $100 through insurance

 

Should be correct. I plan on doing this swap as well and already have the harness for it. You can stack washers for the spacer, unless you find a good source for one the right size or make one yourself.

You can use the stock belt from what I recall reading. Just bear in mind that the Caddy alt has a 6 rib pulley so the stock belt will not cover it all but will still work fine.

I remember reading up on that. I found one saying that the stock belt wouldn't work so they used a power steering one, but I never found another write-up saying that. So I'm sticking with stock belt

 

What is the Amp upgrade?

 

The caddy alt is 140amp.

 

Stock belt works, but make sure you get the caddy alt with the windshield defroster option, it has the proper 1/4" pulley spacer needed for the belt alignment to be halfway decent

 

This is basically what I'm "following" seems pretty straight forward so and quite easy upgrade for about $150

Things gonna rust away before you can put it to use.

But I bet the rust layers will be thick enough by then it’ll be as good as steel. Maybe you’ll luck out and the layers will put enough pressure on each other and become one solid dust bunny bumper.
