Please help me - 2012 Sport Upgrade with 18" Rims

    I have a 2012 Tacoma (double cab, long bed, sport upgrade with the 18" rims) that has a body lift on it. I'm looking to get the largest tires that will fit that won't require any trimming to accommodate but don't know the first thing about tire sizing. I'm hoping someone with experience can guide me.

    What I know is that the stock tires are 265/60R18 (whatever that means) and the body lift kit is from Readylift (ReadyLift 69-5056 3.0"F/2.0"R SST Lift Kit for Toyota Tacoma 2WD/4WD).

    Any and all help is appreciated - I really don't know much about cars so hoping for a solid.

    So first to make sure your terminology is correct moving forward you have a suspension lift. A body lift is quite different as it lifts the body off the frame and doesn't touch the suspension. Your lift is a spacer up front and a block in the rear.

    As for fitment, your tire size options will vary dependent upon how much trimming you're willing to do and the specs of your wheels, the back spacing is very important to know because if it's too high your tire will rub the upper control arm.

    Thanks for clarifying that - I really dont know much about this stuff. If I didn't want to do any trimming at all what would you recommend?     The info here doesn't look bad, but a lot of these tires sizes won't fit a stock wheel without wheel spacers.

    Before proceeding we need to know your wheel specs.

    Also as for trimming, most of it will be the rear of the wheel well, the plastic inner liner. Depending on tire size and wheel fitment, possibly a little of the plastic fender flare and possibly a CMC (Cab Mount Chop) which is the metal plate at the rear bottom of the wheel well. It can be cut and a new plate welded in to provide more tire clearance.

    Help me out because I really don't know anything about this stuff. What wheel specs are you looking for? The only numbers I have on the tires that came with the truck are 265/60R18. If it helps, I got the 2012 Sport TRD that had the 18" chrome clad wheels.

    Can you post a picture of them? Sounds like you have Tacoma Limited wheels as the TRD sport came factory with 17” wheels.

    So after some searching those wheels are 18" x 7.5" with a +25mm offset which makes for 5.25" backspacing.

    You can either get some wheel spacers to move the wheel out further to clear a larger tire. While that will create room from rubbing you UCA it'll cause you to rub more on the fender and the cab mount.
    Your best course of action would be a set of 265/65R18 tires. 275/65R18 might fit as it's only a little wider. Truth be told I'm not super familiar with the fitment on your wheels as they aren't very common.
    If you got a new set of wheels with 8" width and 4.5" backspacing it definitely opens up your options.

    Trim enough and you could squeeze 35's... with minor trimming of mostly plastic 285/65r18's (33x11.50) should fit well. I would look at a 275/65r18 if you want to keep your rims or 275/70r18 (33x11). Most tires in those sizes are going to be load E and quite heavy. I would pull the spacer and block set up off and get some Bilstein 5100's and just level it, then run a 265/65r18 or 265/70r18. With the latter set up you will get better handling, smoother ride, and all around better performance than the spacers/block.

    I'm trying to avoid all trimming and spacers and just put on a bigger tire - based on that, do you think the 275/65 or 275/70?

    No spacers or lift, 275/65r18 will likely still rub. I have 265/75r16 and rub a touch. I just haven’t put my 6112’s on yet. Without any lift I would stick with 265/65r18, they’ll be about an inch taller than what you have and won’t hurt mpg/on road characteristics too much. It’s a matter of preference really. That chart about states 265/70r18 will work, they're about 2" taller than stock, with stock width. You can snag bilstein adjustable 5100's pretty cheap if you check this forum, craigslist, etc. to ensure you have the clearance necessary. I've heard 2016+ coilovers will net a bit of height gain too, but am not too sure on this.

    Trimming a little of the inner fender isn't bad to reduce/eliminate rubbing.
